Before <before surgery> After <1 week after surgery> If you look at the pre-op photo, my nostrils are lying sideways in an oval shape. I had a severe bulbous nose and also had a bit of alar flare.
I went to 17 plastic surgery clinics in Gangnam, and about 14 of them said I should get alar reduction, while 1 said I probably didn’t need it.
The remaining two said something along the lines of, it would be fine to decide on alar reduction after doing the whole surgery. But personally,
I hated how, on men, the nostrils can look small like an 11-shaped electrical outlet. I also didn’t like the idea of cutting out raw tissue or the fact that it’s hard to restore.
Most importantly, the key fact was that alar reduction could be decided later. So I didn’t get alar reduction.
I raised my nose firmly with autologous costal cartilage, and it’s now been 8 days. Look at my nose shape. It stands at a decent slanted oval shape, right?
If I had also gotten alar reduction from there, it would have become the 11-shaped outlet look that I said I hated. The nose shape, when seen from below,
would probably have become a more acute triangle too. I think it would have looked really bad and aesthetically unappealing!!
In conclusion, I’m really glad I didn’t get alar reduction~~
I hope everyone decides on alar reduction really, really carefully.
