I got ceramic braces, and I do think it’s true that orthodontic treatment makes the lower face look a bit prettier. The problem is that aftercare is more annoying than I expected. Wearing retainers every time I sleep, making sure food doesn’t get stuck in the fixed retainer on the inside..
The jaw becoming slimmer isn’t dramatic. More than the aesthetic part, the malocclusion was the bigger issue, and now my snaggletooth doesn’t show when I smile.
Also, my canine tooth disappeared. I think the clinic intentionally shaved it down to make it look prettier.
I go for aftercare once a month, and at first it really hurts and I couldn’t open my mouth, but my satisfaction is really high.
These days the technology is better, so there are options for braces that don’t show, but those take over 5 years and cost several times more, so I think just getting it over with quickly is best.
