Eye Surgery Reviews

Review of Shopping Around for Revision Eye Surgery

One side had loosened, I did not like the line, and I kept wondering whether this was what had caused it, so I decided to change the line (semi-out to in-out). I found many places through online research, but I thought it would be hard to decide if I had too many candidates. Since I was going with my younger sibling, I decided to narrow them down as much as possible. My first priority was whether it was a solo-doctor clinic or had a doctor specializing in eye surgery. My second priority was whether the doctor's personality was okay.. lol. I have a somewhat prickly personality and work closely with doctors, so if a doctor was curt during the consultation, I felt I might get annoyed, act curt too, and leave saying never mind, no matter how skilled they were. I booked four places, but ended up visiting only three; somehow I did not go to one!

All the clinics commonly said not to recommend the line I wanted, and that it would be better to preserve my current line and undergo incision-method revision. They also said there was no need to restore or further enlarge the inner corners.

1. [Clinic A] - The doctor was friendly, kind, and had a good impression. They checked my line several times, explained things, and examined me carefully. - They said another line would become too low, but raising it would be excessive because there would not be enough space between the eyes and eyebrows. - They said eye-opening muscle correction and other canthoplasty were unnecessary, and that we should focus only on the current double-eyelid issue. - They would consult on the design again on the day of surgery. - I could have had a long consultation if I had more questions, but I did not want to fail, so aside from the line I wanted, I did not have many opinions of my own. If the doctor had no other surgery that day, people with many questions could probably consult for a long time. - Aftercare: 2 years+; anesthesia fee 110,000 won—I do not remember this precisely. - Swelling injection on the day of surgery, swelling laser when stitches were removed one week later, and customized care after a one-month follow-up. - With the review writing, reservation deposit, and various discounts, the final amount and the discounted amount were fairly similar. It felt neither expensive nor cheap.

2. [Clinic B] - Before the consultation, they took photos with an iPhone, so I was a little taken aback,,,, lol. I thought it might have been because they were not preoperative before photos. - The coordinator seemed very proud of the doctor and praised them more than Clinic A. They said the doctor was sensitive to symmetry and even had patients sit up and open their eyes. Since symmetry is important to me too, I was interested. - The doctor was also kind and pleasant. Since they were younger than the doctor at Clinic A, I wondered whether their aesthetic sense might be better. They repeatedly had me close and open the eye on the loosened side, kept adjusting the line, and checked my eye-opening strength, but said it was ambiguous. I think they said that because it had loosened, I was using extra force to open my eye and set the line. They said eye-opening muscle correction was needed. I thought, Do I really need it..? But since it was not canthoplasty or anything like that, I figured I could do it if they recommended it. - They said all appointments were booked after the November college entrance exam, which made me think that perhaps everyone booked because they were good. That also appealed to me. - Aftercare: 1 year. - Swelling injection on the day, stitch removal and swelling laser one week later, and customized care while monitoring the progress. - The original price was similar to Clinic A, but after various discounts and an additional discount, it was the cheapest. Honestly, the price was a major advantage.

3. [Clinic C] - There were not many reviews, but I booked because I heard this was where a doctor formerly at [Clinic D] had opened an independent practice. From the call confirming the appointment, they told me that the consultation might take a long time because they ask detailed questions. They asked things other clinics had not: whether I had had eye-opening muscle correction or canthoplasty, what exactly I wanted revised, and so on. They spoke with me longer than the other places. Part of me wondered whether they were not busy, but I also thought that for non-insurance surgery, it was natural to ask this carefully. lol From this point, I felt somewhat positive. - I deliberately scheduled an early-morning consultation, but had to wait because there was surgery beforehand. I arrived 20 minutes early, so it was okay. - The coordinator also attended the consultation. It felt like following a medical round, which left a good impression on me. - There are reviews saying the doctor’s personality is not good and others saying the opposite, but the doctor was pleasant, kind, and had a good impression. Maybe because I had few places to compare, but this doctor seemed the most professional. They explained things in detail, and I finally learned why an in-out line would not work. My eyes are okay in the center, but the inner eye area was very sunken, whether because a lot of fat had been removed during the previous surgery or because there had not been much there. They said that if they set an in-out line, the line at the inner corners would become buried over time and look like an in-line, although it would look defined. I wanted a balance of natural and glamorous, and neither option was bad, so they did not force me to choose one. They told me to think about it and choose what I wanted, saying that if one clearly suited me, they would have decided for me. - At the other clinics, they only looked at the line with my eyes closed and touched my forehead. Here, before looking in the mirror, they had me follow their finger with my gaze. Apparently my younger sibling did not tense their forehead during this, or while looking at the doctor, but I must have tensed mine when looking in the mirror. They noticed that I was tensing my forehead when I consciously looked in the mirror, even though I had not been doing so earlier. I thought, Oh~~. - They said eye-opening muscle correction was unnecessary and my opening strength was fine; the line had loosened and made the eyes look weak, and they would secure something during surgery, though I do not remember exactly what.. lol - I had thought the overlapping crease was simply an age-related wrinkle, but they said the eye area would gradually lose fat with age and that they should perform fat repositioning during surgery to smooth it out. It was not a major concern, so I thought it could simply be handled during revision and had not mentioned it, but I liked that they noticed it just by looking at my eyes. - Aftercare: 1 year. - Swelling injection on the day, stitch removal and three swelling-laser sessions one week later. - The price was the highest, but it was what I had expected. Even after a discount, I wondered whether it had really been discounted.

I put down reservation deposits at Clinics A and B that day. Clinic C said I could think about it and contact them before leaving the clinic, so I left as it was. They did not really pressure me, whereas Clinics A and B felt slightly pushy, so I paid the deposits and left. At first, because of the price, I was planning to choose Clinic B. But after consulting at Clinic C, I felt there was no reason not to choose it: even without a price advantage, they explained my eyes so well. I decided to have surgery at Clinic C and canceled Clinics A and B~
