It has been 15 years since my nose surgery, but suddenly, starting the day before yesterday, I felt as if the septum inside my nose was moving. It didn’t hurt, but pressing the columella caused a tingling sensation, so I wondered whether it was inflammation. If it was inflammation, I thought it might be time for removal, so I looked for a hospital specializing in removal and visited [Clinic A], one of the Big Three. First, they examined my nasal bridge and columella with ultrasound and said the fixation seemed good and it did not appear to be moving. They said my skin had become so thin that I was probably beginning to feel the foreign material. They did not think it was inflammation, and said that after 15 years it had been in place a long time; under normal circumstances, most people would have removed it after 10 years, but I seemed to have lasted because I was lucky and had plenty of tissue on my nose. They told me to consider removal. I was relieved that there seemed to be no problem on ultrasound, but I still wondered why it kept tingling. Could thinning skin suddenly cause this? T_T After looking at old photos, where my nose had been very bulbous, they said that completely removing everything would make my nose look extremely wide, so it would probably be better to leave the septum. They suggested removing the silicone, trimming the tip cartilage, and leaving the septum, though the columella would remain hard; they asked whether I could give up the shape completely if I removed everything. They said that if the septum and cartilage were badly damaged when they opened it, everything might have to be removed, and they might add Megaderm or dermis. I felt a little confused hearing that because I did not want to put anything else in. Anyway, the conclusion was that they would only know after opening it, but I should do it before inflammation developed or it became more visible. I somewhat agreed, since it was already quite visible and I was anxious. However, because I had started the consultation by asking whether there was inflammation inside my nose rather than focusing on removal, I felt they did not explain the methods in very much detail. Sigh. I wanted to visit somewhere that could perform a CT scan, but they said it would not be possible until next Monday, so I went today because I was anxious. Now I’m even more conflicted...
