2-year review of Smile LASIK

2-year review of Smile LASIK The writer is in their 20s and has been a low-vision person wearing glasses since first grade. Before LASIK, my uncorrected vision was about 0.5/0.3, and with contacts or glasses it was about 0.8/0.9. First of all, because it’s a factory-style clinic, the pre-op eye exams move very quickly. It’s like a conveyor belt: you go back and forth between machines as the optometrist instructs, and even the vision test is done that way. After checking vision, intraocular pressure, corneal thickness, and so on, you consult with the manager. She was kind, and since my older sister had already gone first, I got a friend-of-a-friend advantage (I received care from the same consultation manager). As of 2024, I paid about 2.5 million won including VAT. The reasons I chose Smile LASIK were: 1) I needed a quick recovery because I had to work, and 2) I understood that around your 40s to 50s, the effect of LASIK/LASEK generally declines and you may need to consider a second surgery, so I chose LASEK to preserve more corneal tissue for that future. (My corneal thickness was enough for LASIK too, but with LASEK I had enough thickness for about two procedures.) The surgery was over in almost 5 minutes, and not being able to close my eyes while smelling a burning odor was scary. But they played the music I wanted, so I was at least able to calm down and go through with it. After that, I wore sunglasses, my parents came to pick me up, and I went home by car. They gave me eye drops, and I kept using them consistently. For the first three days, my eyes hurt a lot, I teared up, and life outside was almost impossible, but after that the pain gradually decreased, even though my vision was blurry. From then on I went back to work. Now my eyes get dry sometimes, but I’m satisfied to the point that I can’t imagine life before wearing glasses. As long as I keep using eye drops consistently, that should be enough. Recommended (not an adxxx I’m staking my career on it, this is not an ad)
