I’m going to write my LASIK review from my own pocket. This is 100 percent not an ad, just a real, honest review.
It feels like it has almost been 2 years since I had PRK. My personality is pretty easygoing, so I’m less sensitive than most people. I’ll write what I felt.
Before PRK, I had very severe high myopia plus astigmatism, so PRK was the only option for me. My corneal thickness was decent, and they said I could do it up to twice.
Back then I was deciding between the hospital I went to and a very famous one called [Clinic A]. In the end I chose this place because of the price, because an older sister I know had it done here and was satisfied, and because of the machine they used. I can’t remember the name, but it had a kind of blue feel? Anyway, it was a new machine and seemed interesting. So I did it here. My friend had surgery on the same day as me, and that older sister also had surgery here.
At this point I’d say I’m about 75 percent satisfied and 25 percent dissatisfied. The reason is that I developed corneal haze, so my vision changes a lot depending on how I’m doing. Letters are not always clear. But I’m still satisfied because before that my eyesight was so bad, glasses were very heavy, contact lenses were extremely uncomfortable, and now I’m very comfortable.
I’m just someone who only needs 4.0 vision and wants to live comfortably, so it feels fine. Still, not seeing things sharply is a little frustrating. There is also some glare, but it is still okay. It was worse before.
So I’m moderately satisfied. If I use a lot of artificial tears and keep my eyes moist, I can see a bit better, but only temporarily. I was worried about serious side effects, like severe dryness to the point my eyes felt torn apart, or glare so bad that I could not drive, but that did not happen.
Overall it’s mostly fine. But unusually, my corneal haze came on very late, so I may need surgery again..? Still, for now I do not regret it. Not having to wear glasses or contacts is so convenient.
At first I thought the doctor might be a bit cold, but over time he has taken good care of me, so it is fine. I wish I had had PRK when I was younger, earlier..
This is just my messy, casual review. If you’re getting PRK or LASIK, protect yourself from sunlight. I think I got corneal haze because I was strict with aftercare at first, then got exposed to too much light. T_T
At the beginning my vision even reached 1.5. My original prescription was -5, -6, with high myopia and astigmatism. Now it varies with my condition, but it’s around 0.6? 0.8? When the side effects were really bad, I think it was around 0.3. But now the vision still fluctuates again.
For far objects, I cannot read letters, but I can make out the rough shape. Maybe it will get better again as time passes? Still, it is not like before, when I could not see anything at all and everything was blurry, so it is okay.
I’ll write another update after some more time passes! I hope everyone’s surgery goes well, and if you take aftercare seriously, the chance of side effects is higher. Wear sunglasses properly.
Ah, my close older sister and my friend only had some dryness and said they could see well. My older sister said she was not even dry. Both of them had successful surgeries.
