Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

9-month review after double-jaw surgery from someone who used to feel a lot of side-profile stress

It has already been 9 months since my double-jaw surgery haha. I had the surgery with Dr. Kim Jong-yun at Iu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Since high school, I kept thinking my mouth looked a bit protruded, and whenever I smiled I would cover my mouth or check my side profile first when taking photos. I also tried orthodontics, and while my teeth alignment improved, my lip shape did not feel very different, so I started to think this was a bone issue. Even the dentist said I would need double-jaw surgery to get the line I wanted, so that was when I started looking into it.Honestly, I looked up double-jaw surgery side effects, recovery time, and similar things a lot, and I was scared too. But I decided it would be better to do it before getting even older. I visited several hospitals for consultations in person, and since it is a risky surgery, I thought I should get it from an oral and maxillofacial surgeon rather than a plastic surgeon. I liked that Iu Oral has a collaborative orthodontic system and looks at function and aesthetics together. At the first consultation, Dr. Kim Jong-yun calmly explained my facial condition and the double-jaw surgery method, and that actually made me trust him more. I think it was more trustworthy because he did not overpraise it.Now it has been 9 months, and I can eat almost everything comfortably and go about daily life as if I had forgotten I even had surgery. More than anything, because my lip shape was corrected, my side line looks clearly different, and I have received so many comments that I look prettier! Before, I was always worried my mouth would look protruded even when I was just sitting still, but now I hardly think about that at all. Taking photos is much easier too. When the swelling was going down, I was impatient, but with time it settled naturally. If you are thinking about double-jaw surgery because of protrusion or malocclusion, I think it would be good to at least get a consultation to hear your exact condition first.
