Since childhood, I had what people commonly call a concave chin, in other words a Class III malocclusion. Every time I went to the dentist, I heard about orthodontics or double jaw surgery, but because I had been used to it since birth, I went through life without feeling that it was a big problem functionally or aesthetically. Then after becoming an adult, I started to feel jaw joint pain when eating, and at some point when I looked in the mirror I realized that the facial asymmetry was more severe than I had thought. From then on I came to think that it was not just an appearance issue but a functional issue, and I seriously started considering double jaw surgery with the mindset that I should get proper treatment before it was too late. Since I thought double jaw surgery was a surgery where proper occlusion and functional recovery mattered more than cosmetic goals, I looked for hospitals mainly through oral and maxillofacial surgery departments rather than plastic surgery departments. Because orthodontic treatment is carried out together before and after surgery, I also considered whether the surgeon and orthodontist communicated well. After consulting at several hospitals, I decided to have the surgery with Director Shin Hee-jin at Yigu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In the consultation process, rather than creating unrealistic expectations, they gave a cold and conservative diagnosis, and because they explained my condition realistically, I actually trusted them more. They had extensive double jaw surgery experience and a well-established cooperative system with orthodontics, so I felt confident I could entrust the surgery to them. Now, 9 months after the double jaw surgery, I feel that recovery has become almost completely stable. As the post-surgical orthodontic treatment has progressed a lot, the bite has noticeably improved, and the feeling when the upper and lower teeth come together while eating is very natural. In the past, I felt a little discomfort when chewing noodles or eating tough foods, but now I can eat comfortably without that problem. The chewing force is also transferred evenly, and there is no burden or awkwardness at all when using my jaw. Aesthetically, my face has now settled to the point that the change is no longer noticeable. There is no remaining swelling or asymmetry, and my overall impression is being maintained naturally and stably. People around me also often say there is almost no sign that I had surgery, and that I just look better. I feel reassured because satisfaction is high both functionally and aesthetically, and it seems like this condition will be maintained well going forward. After 9 months, the surgery has already become part of my daily life, and I have absolutely no regrets about choosing it. I hope this is helpful for anyone considering double jaw surgery.
