Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Protruding Jaw Asymmetry Double Jaw Surgery

I had been recommended by the dentist to get orthodontic treatment since I was young, but due to personal circumstances I could not, and I lived with a protruding jaw and asymmetry. I was originally afraid of double jaw surgery and thought I would just live as I was, but when I looked in the mirror or took photos, the protruding jaw and asymmetry that stood out so clearly caused stress to build up without me even realizing it. I decided I could not live like this and went for consultations during vacation. I had consultations at two places in total, and I underwent double jaw surgery and two contouring procedures (chin and square jaw) at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The reason I chose Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was that the director performs surgery only once a day, the guardian can watch the process on CCTV during surgery, and Director Lee Seok-jae has extensive experience, so I felt the surgery could be carried out safely there. Also, during the consultation, the director only told me exactly what I needed to hear, which gave me even more trust, and the consultation manager explained things in detail as well, so I could understand clearly how the surgery would proceed! I was a case that required presurgical orthodontics first, so I had about 10 months of presurgical orthodontic treatment before the surgery. Another reason I chose this hospital was that orthodontics and surgery could be done within the same hospital. Before surgery, I ate as much of the food I wanted as possible and also made sure to take my iron supplements diligently! I also had surgery in winter, so I tried especially hard not to catch a cold. On the day of surgery, I arrived with my guardian by 9:40. It was a private room, and the atmosphere was neat and cozy. After unpacking and changing into patient clothes, a nurse came to do the final pre-op checks, including whether I had fasted, and then I went into the operating room. I fell asleep at the same time I felt the anesthesia going in, and when I woke up I was sitting up on the bed. Because they had to remove the anesthetic gas, I stayed awake, continuing to exhale until 8 p.m. I did not have facial pain, and because I had bandages and an ice pack on, I only felt a slight heaviness. My nose was completely blocked and my throat was full of phlegm, so breathing felt more uncomfortable. What was especially hard for me was that I kept retching whenever they put in medications such as painkillers. They said I should not vomit because it would increase pressure in my face, but all night long every time the medicine went in I felt so nauseated that I kept gagging. At night, the night-shift nurse came in every hour to replace the ice pack, drainage bag, urine bag, and so on, and to check my condition, but because I gagged every time I received medicine, they diluted it before giving it to me. The first day was the hardest, but I think I could really get through it thanks to the nurses..! On days 2 to 3, on day 2 they removed the urine bag and drainage bag, and I walked around the hospital little by little and drank water and New Care. Walking around little by little definitely seemed to improve my condition a bit. I spent the rest of the day looking at my phone, which I had not even been able to hold on the first day, and slept in two-hour stretches. I was discharged on day 3. After coming home, I slept a bit and spent the day moving around. I had to take pills three times a day, but my airway was swollen so I could not swallow them, and water kept leaking out the side, which made it very hard to take them. In the end, I crushed the pills and mixed them with water to drink them. They were a little bitter, but I was glad to find a way to take the medication. Also, for a week I could only drink protein shakes, electrolyte drinks, juice, and the like, so I got very tired of it and it was hard.. On days 4 to 5, my face swelled up very severely and I felt heat and a sensation like it might burst, but after that the swelling went down rapidly! At the one-week mark after surgery, I had my mouth disinfected, and I blended rice porridge into a thin gruel and swallowed it. After a week of only liquids, the thin gruel tasted incredibly good. At two weeks after surgery, I had my stitches removed. Most reviews said it hurt, so I was scared, but it was more manageable than I expected. It stung a bit around the philtrum area, but I held out by thinking that once the stitches were removed, the range of foods I could eat would widen! From that day on, I ate while putting in and removing the wafer. It was a little annoying to brush my teeth and clean the wafer every time after eating, so I tended to eat in one go, but because I could definitely eat a more varied range of foods than before, I could feel my stamina returning too~! One month after surgery, chewing was allowed, so I carefully chewed soft foods. When I chewed again after a month, even biting rice grains was difficult, but as I gradually got used to it, I think I expanded the range of foods I could chew. The discomfort from nasal congestion and throat swelling all disappeared, and I spent each day watching the swelling go down! I could go out for much longer than right after surgery, and I think I focused on recovering my stamina. Two to three months after surgery, my stamina improved a lot to the point that I could even take a one-night, two-day domestic trip! Before surgery I really hated walking, but after surgery I thought that the more I walked even a little, the more the swelling would go down, so I diligently walked around outside Whenever people around me said the surgery went well and that I had been through a lot, I felt that I was glad I had the surgery. Although life was very inconvenient for the first two weeks after surgery, I am so satisfied now and am gradually getting used to my changed face~ Since it was such a big surgery, I had been worrying about it for years, but I thought that if I did not do it now, I would not even have the courage later, so I gathered my courage and went through with it. From now on, I plan to live well with my new face~!
