I had my first nose surgery, and during the consult I just asked them to make it natural. It’s been about a week since the surgery using septal cartilage, and the difference from before surgery is really tiny, so I’m feeling a bit lost. Other than asking for a natural result, I also said I wanted the columella lowered because my nose has a poorly developed columella, but the only thing that changed is that the columella is slightly visible from the side; from the front, there is no difference from before surgery. Maybe it’s because the swelling hasn’t gone down yet, but the bridge between the eyes feels strangely bigger too, so I just look like a huge-nosed person. I look uglier than before surgery.. I knew the hospital specialized in natural-looking results and I did say at the consult that I wanted it natural, but I didn’t expect it to be this little.... I only realized afterward that the shape I wanted could only be achieved by using costal cartilage, and they told me that only then (depending on the stability of my septal cartilage, they might use costal cartilage, and since they can only know that after opening things up, they said they would use other cartilage as discussed at the consult and try to avoid costal cartilage as much as possible). If I had known that the surgical shape could vary this much depending on the materials used, I would have said to use autologous costal cartilage.. For now, I’ll wait and see whether the swelling goes down and whether it still looks better than before surgery, and if not, I’ll probably get a revision in six months or a year. For anyone thinking about first-time nose surgery, I hope you make sure to discuss everything thoroughly at the consult so you don’t make the same mistake I did.
