It has been about 10 months since I had everything removed last year, so I’m writing this for anyone curious about a long-term update. I keep posting because I hope it helps people who are struggling emotionally after nose surgery complications, and it already feels like the 10-month mark came so fast. 1. Opinions about the hospital I’ve written my detailed nose condition well in my post list by time period, so I’d appreciate it if you read that!!! It’s hard for me to share the hospital information... same with the cost... T_T The short version is that they removed both the nasal tip and the bridge, and because the tip depression was severe, they filled the nasal tip with autologous dermis. First of all, I’m still satisfied with the place I chose, but everyone is different, so if possible I think you should still go around and consult at least all the famous removal specialists. The reason I say that is... as I always write in my posts, because I was in such a bad mental state after the infection progressed to contracture and the tip collapsed, I felt it would be better to proceed with removal surgery as quickly as possible in order to get my mind under control. So I only went to two hospitals and then just went ahead with the full removal surgery. The hospital I chose also initially recommended revision surgery a few months after full removal. They said the bridge had already been shaved down a lot because it had been pressed by the silicone, so there would definitely be a step-off and the nose shape would not be pretty and would be low. They suggested that, since the inflammation was severe, they could not put anything into the bridge right away, but after full removal and once the inside of the nose improved, I could have revision surgery. I said, “Absolutely not. If my nose really ends up looking bizarre, I’ll consider revision for cosmetic reasons. For now, I want a full removal that does not involve considering revision.” I strongly asked them to remove everything in my nose, and I had the surgery at a hospital that said they would accommodate me as much as possible. They said that if they did not put autologous dermis in the tip, it would sink inward, so I decided to have it placed, and because there was no inflammation in the tip, that was possible. Fortunately, I’m satisfied because the result is what I wanted, so I’m happy with that hospital. Still, I sometimes think that even now it might have been nice to go around and consult all of the famous top removal hospitals. 2. Mental care after surgery The last update I posted was when it had been about 5 months after full removal. Now that I compare photos from 5 months ago with my photos today, the shape seems a little different again..? I was surprised too. But unless you compare this carefully, even the person concerned usually does not notice. Then how much less would other people notice? So if you have already had removal surgery..! I completely understand being unable to sleep because of anxiety even after the surgery. But don’t stare at your nose every single day. If there is no major problem, let time do its work for now, take good care of it, and manage your mental state well since stress is actually worse for the body. I was not mentally stable before the removal surgery, of course, and even immediately after the surgery I was not in my right mind. I was afraid of complications that had not even happened yet, and I spent the nights wide awake with anxiety, moving between other people’s reviews and group chats and this community. I felt like I could not live like that, so I cut off all the information and focused only on my nose recovery, and my mental state gradually improved. So please do not let your mind collapse over complications that have not even happened yet! It will not be easy, but I’ll support you. 3. 10-month update As you can probably tell from the photos, my nose condition was a mess before the full removal surgery. It was an infected, contracted nose. So there were times after surgery when swelling made the bridge look sunken, and times when I went through a very strong shrinking phase like in the photos. Even then, I was always happy. It was still much prettier and more natural than the contracted nose. I thought the 5-month mark would be the final nose shape, but looking at it now, it seems like the nose has settled down a bit more at 10 months. They say the shape keeps changing until 1 year, and I guess that’s true. This was the extent of my changes, and honestly the only reason I noticed them was because I took photos and compared them. In daily life, I did not notice. 4. Do people around me notice? I’ve recently had a lot of acquaintances I had not met in a while because my wedding is coming up and I was having pre-wedding gatherings, so maybe around 20 to 30 people... Among them, only one person noticed, and for the entire 10 months nobody else did. Even that one person who noticed was joking, saying things like, “Why does your face look like it did before you had nose surgery (the surgery where silicone was inserted)...?” and then asked, “Wait, did you remove your nose implant?” and only then realized it. Nobody knows. Even relatives could not tell. The only comment was just, “You look prettier somehow.” That was it. 5. Autologous dermis absorption rate? Since I had autologous dermis placed in the nasal tip, I was also afraid it would be absorbed, but honestly I still do not really know. Compared with right after surgery, the nasal tip is less puffy... I do not know whether that is because it was puffier from surgical swelling and then went down, making it smaller, or whether the autologous dermis was absorbed to some degree and got smaller. It is not really bothering me yet. I think I need to keep observing it for a longer period. 6. Am I satisfied? Yes, I’m so happy. The contracture had been coming on little by little, and then at some point it became severe. For a while I was unsure and thinking, “Is this contracture..?” but then one day I suddenly felt it very strongly and it really stood out to me. From that point on I was not in my right mind. My self-esteem was low and so on. But now I’m so happy. It feels like I’ve almost returned to my original nose.
