It has been about a year and a half since I had surgery with Dr. [Doctor A]. I underwent the procedure without an implant, and during the consultation I trusted the manager’s kindness and the doctor’s unhurried way of speaking with me, so I went ahead with the surgery.
But honestly, I was not very satisfied after the operation. The hump was removed by osteotomy, but at first I thought it was swelling; both the front view and side view kept looking thick, and I didn’t like the line either. In fact, my nose became so thick that the nose before surgery looked slimmer.
When I returned about a year after surgery to discuss this, I was very disappointed. The reason I chose [Clinic A] was the trust and kindness I felt from the clinic itself, the manager, and the doctor, but when I came back for aftercare, I felt very clearly that they treated me differently from before surgery, just like at other clinics. I had come to look for a solution, not to blame the doctor, but I could feel in many ways that they were treating me as if I had come for that purpose. The manager’s tone and expression were really cold, and the doctor also did not think of solutions, only saying there was nothing that could be done and that the nose being thick was not due to the surgery but because I seemed to have gained weight, and that must be the reason. I had kept the same weight until a month before that consultation, and I had carefully watched the changes over that whole year before making the difficult decision to have revision surgery, so being told it was because of my weight was quite shocking.
Also, I didn’t know before or right after surgery, but only at the visit a year later did they tell me that something had been filled into the tip area of the nose to make it stronger. I had clearly said I was getting nose surgery for cosmetic reasons, and above all I emphasized that I wanted a slim front view, so I honestly could not understand why that decision was made.
What I learned through surgery with Dr. [Doctor A] and the two consultations is that the doctor definitely prioritizes safety more than others and pays a lot of attention to the functional side of the nose. Because of that, I have been living without any major complications. But my nose had no functional problems to begin with, and I still don’t really understand the doctor’s method of making it sturdier by adding something that actually made it less aesthetically pleasing to a nose that was already functioning well.
I would recommend it to people who care more about function and safety without complications than about the line or shape of the nose, but if you care a lot about the cosmetic side of the nose, I think you should have a much deeper consultation with the doctor!
