People say rhinoplasty is not even plastic surgery for the eyes and nose, but it sounds completely false to me. Especially for people like me with a bulbous nose, you will painfully realize how difficult nose surgery really is I also had surgery because of my bulbous nose, but the result was a total disaster... It was not a reaction like, "It turned out naturally and nicely," but rather, "That was a nose that had surgery?" There was truly zero change, so I ended up wasting money and becoming so stressed that I started looking everywhere for a revision surgery.
I visited every place known for revision surgery for a bulbous nose, but most of them followed the pattern of a 5-minute consultation with the director and then the manager negotiating the price. Cowan was definitely different. When it was my turn and I went into the consultation room, there were quite a lot of patients waiting, but the director examined my nose very carefully and analyzed it for me.
It was not just the usual empty talk that if you make it higher it will look prettier, but the director pointed out exactly that my skin itself was thick and there was a lot of fat, so this was not a nose that would respond well if you simply tied the cartilage together. The moment he said that, I thought, this is it!!! lol He explained the problems with my nose and the reasons my first surgery failed point by point, and it felt like I had found a ray of light I had already used up my ear cartilage in the first surgery, so I had a lot to think about regarding materials, but the director clearly explained the pros and cons of donated rib cartilage and autologous costal cartilage. I wanted autologous costal cartilage because the absorption rate is low and there is less to worry about in terms of side effects, but honestly I was hesitant because of the pain. The director said without sugarcoating that autologous costal cartilage is honestly somewhat painful and that I needed to know that in advance, and that felt much more trustworthy than being told it would not hurt no matter what. In fact, because he spoke honestly, I think I was able to prepare myself mentally and get on the operating table.
On the day of surgery, I went into the operating room extremely nervous, but everyone was so kind that I felt a little more at ease. Right after the surgery, just as the director had said, the autologous costal cartilage area did hurt in a sore, tight way. The funny thing was that because my rib area hurt, I did not even realize whether my nose actually hurt or not lol Every time I went in for dressing changes, the director checked my condition and asked if anything felt uncomfortable, but I kept saying, "My nose itself is not hurting at all, just a little stuffy," and everyone laughed. haha During recovery too, my nose was more of a battle against swelling than against pain, and I hardly remember suffering because of pain.
The thing I emphasized most was that I absolutely did not want a nose tip that was pointed like < this. I wanted to reduce the bulbousness, but if it became too pointed, it would look artificial and tacky. But the director at Cowan reflected my needs exactly, clearly removed the bluntness, and made the tip natural and nicely lifted. It has already been 2 years since the surgery, and the tip has stayed beautiful without any sagging or shape changes. If you touch it, the end does feel a little firm, but I actually think that helps support the tip structure more solidly, so I feel much more reassured.
I chose revision surgery very carefully, thinking this would be my last chance, and every time I look in the mirror I feel that my choice was not wrong. If you are tired of cookie-cutter consultations, especially if you have thick skin and a bulbous nose like me, do not hesitate and go get a consultation with the director at Cowan first. It has been 2 years and I still have not regretted it even once. This is a genuine self-paid review! The director at Cowan is truly a god of bulbous noses! The best💖
