When I was going around for revision rhinoplasty consultations, exactly one place scared me by saying that even if I got functional surgery, maybe I could get reimbursed if it were my first surgery, but for revision surgery I would absolutely never get reimbursed. So I just had it done at another hospital that said they would prepare the documents well, and I didn't expect reimbursement, but including real-loss insurance + surgery benefit reimbursement, I got back about as much as the functional surgery cost.
Of course there may be differences by insurance company, but it was so absurd that they emphasized "absolutely never" lol At the hospital where I had surgery, they also said they would prepare the documents as much as possible, but because it depends on the insurance company, they couldn't guarantee responsibility for reimbursement. But the wording makes such a difference lol
I did hear that because nasal valve surgery is expensive, the reimbursement review is also strict, but I was only applicable for two functional procedures, deviated septum and inferior turbinate, and even then hearing "absolutely never" was ridiculous.
When I searched because I thought functional reimbursement wouldn't be possible, I also found out this time that the claim saying reimbursement is only possible if the surgeon is an ENT specialist is nonsense. That sounds like something said by clinics where the doctor isn't a plastic surgery specialist.
I don't know when or how the policy terms may change, but I had surgery by a plastic surgery specialist at the end of February, and I received reimbursement just fine. The surgery seems to have gone well too!
