< My eyes before surgery / what I wanted to fix > Before surgery, my eyes looked a bit fierce. The inner corners were pointed, and because my eye-opening strength was weak, I had a habit of raising my eyebrows to open my eyes. My hidden double eyelids were also thin and uneven. My face is very Asian(?), so rather than flashy eyes, I wanted natural eyes that suited my face. But I did think it would be nice if my eyes became a little bigger. Interestingly, the hospital directors told me my eyes were not on the small side. I had never thought that while living abroad, so that was a relief.
< Searching far and wide for a hospital > Everyone… I didn’t know there were this many plastic surgery clinics in Korea lololololol When I went to Gangnam, several entire buildings were plastic surgery clinics;; How does everyone make money? Anyway, I narrowed it down to 5 hospitals after looking at a community + YouTube + Gangnam Unni. I filtered out the blacklists posted by other people, problematic hospitals, and factory-style clinics. The reviews on the community were so helpful (thank you, Jjajan unni). For consultations, I went to ㄱㅎㅅ at Sinsa Station, ㄷㄹ at Gangnam Station, ㅇㅍ, ㅇㄷ, and ㅁㅊㅍ in Apgujeong. I really felt that you need to go to many consultations - 2 places recommended buried-suture double eyelid surgery, and 3 places (including the place I chose) recommended incisional double eyelid surgery because I have some flesh on my upper eyelids. Interestingly, ㅁㅊㅍ told me not to do upper/epicanthoplasty because it would make me look fiercer - but the other plastic surgery clinics said upper epicanthoplasty could definitely make my eyes look softer. In the end, I had incisional double eyelid surgery + upper epicanthoplasty at ㄱㅎㅅ.
<The reasons I chose ㄱㅎㅅ were> Not a factory-style clinic, the director’s style is natural, he has operated under his own name for over 15 years, the price is definitely not cheap but they operate without review discounts (no inflated marketing), the consultant is salaried rather than incentive-based (no pushing at all and honest), you meet the director first for the consultation, and many middle-aged and elderly women also go there (meaning it runs on referrals).
<Surgery> (1 hour preparation + 2 hours surgery + 1 hour rest, 4-5 hours total) I had surgery under sedation and local anesthesia. So I fasted for 3 hours before surgery. Make sure, make sure, make sure! to eat breakfast before surgery. The surgery is long, so you get hungry later ㅜㅠ The director had to check during surgery whether the line was forming well and, during the entropion surgery, whether enough tissue had been removed, so I kept opening and closing my eyes over and over. They said my anesthesia… wears off easily (ugh, this body). So I got local anesthesia two more times during surgery ^^ There was a separate person in charge of anesthesia, and there was also one nurse. During the surgery, the director chatted while working, and I could really feel that he was being meticulous… I opened and closed my eyes so much that later I just wished he would stitch me up already.
<Post-surgery swelling tips> Don’t eat salty, oily, or fattening foods, and walk 1 hour every day. Don’t lie down; sit up, and sleep with several pillows. The most important thing is being patient as it will take time!
<Result>
At two months, I left the country and met my friends. My friends said I had gotten prettier somehow, but they couldn’t tell exactly what had changed. It was somehow relieving yet bittersweet… I spent over 3 million won ^^ I guess that means he made it that natural. Looking at before-and-after photos, my eyes are definitely bigger and softer. There are still scars, but they have improved a lot and can be covered with makeup.
I’m extremely satisfied. My mom is also subtly hinting that she wants revision eye surgery… What’s interesting is that even though the double eyelid line is low, my eyes really got bigger. If anything, I think it would have looked strange if it had been higher.
