I've been thinking about jaw surgery for a while. The consultation fee was 30,000 won, and they took an X-ray. During the consultation, they explained the surgical methods for skeletal malocclusion, but I've already looked everything up for the past 5 years, so it was all information I already knew. I will go get consultations elsewhere too, but they didn't insist on SSRO and immediately talked about IVRO. They said there is also some asymmetry, but because I have a protruding jaw, IVRO would be possible. They said, "If you want to live like this, then live like this; if you want to do it, then do it." I went alone for the consultation. The doctor has a long career, and when I made an online inquiry, they said there had been no medical accidents for 20 years, so I trusted the surgical method and wanted to go ahead, but people around me are telling me to look into other places too.
I also trusted it because on YouTube they spoke in a very conservative way. The consultation took about 30 minutes including the X-ray and various other things.
My personal thought is that university hospitals have the advantage of being able to do multidisciplinary cooperation because there are multiple departments.
But the downside is that one professor performs many different surgeries.
However, since this doctor has done only one type of surgery for over 20 years and seems to insist on conservative methods, their expertise looks higher than a university hospital's.
When it comes to medical accidents in double-jaw surgery, I can only think of transection of the inferior alveolar nerve as one possibility, but I do wonder whether there are other kinds of medical accidents. If it's something like excessive bleeding, I'm curious which blood vessel gets injured to cause that bleeding. If anyone knows, please let me know...
