My prominent cheekbones had been an insecurity since childhood, to the point that I wore a mask everywhere. I was so obsessed with my appearance that I would worry about other people’s eyes whenever I took my mask off, but I decided I could no longer keep hiding so uncomfortably and chose surgery.
Cookie had many natural-looking, appealing cheekbone reviews, so I went for a consultation. At first, I was only considering one cheekbone procedure, but the surgeon said that if I only did my cheekbones, my cheeks would look too puffy, and recommended buccal fat removal as well. Since I tend to have a lot of cheek fat, I followed the surgeon’s advice and decided to have that too.
During the consultation, I also learned from the CT images that my chin was blunt, which made my face look longer. They said cortical shaving around the square-jaw area could improve that, but that it was not essential and I should think about it. I deliberated a little, but neither the surgeon nor the consultant pressured me or insisted that I had to do it. So I went ahead comfortably.
It would be a lie to say it did not hurt after surgery, but while I was hospitalized for one day, the nurses took great care of me even during the night, so it was manageable. I am not naturally someone who swells a lot, so I was most swollen until about the second day after surgery, and the major swelling subsided quickly. By the first week, I could wear a mask resting around my chin without feeling self-conscious. The swelling went down faster than I expected.
Even before suture removal, I went to the clinic for a follow-up and swelling laser treatment. After suture removal, I think I received weekly swelling laser and radiofrequency treatments. It was my first time receiving radiofrequency treatment with facial contouring, and it was nice because it felt warm. Perhaps thanks to the clinic’s aftercare, the swelling went down quickly even though I did not do any special swelling care besides walking.
I think the cheekbone swelling went down first. Because of the chipmunk-cheek swelling, I wore a mask until the intraoral sutures were removed, but after they were removed, the jaw swelling had also decreased a lot, so I stopped wearing a mask then. I could actually tell that my cheekbones had reduced almost immediately after surgery, but as the jaw swelling gradually went down, the synergy of the cortical shaving and buccal fat removal the surgeon recommended really became apparent.
At around three months, the operated face began to feel like my original face. When I met friends around then, they said I looked very different from before surgery and complimented me on having a smaller face. It has now been about a year since my facial contouring. This summer is actually my first summer after surgery, and before surgery, I used to wear my hair down every time, even when it was hot, to hide my cheekbones. These days, I tie it up coolly without worrying about it.
Recently I needed to visit a dentist to have a wisdom tooth removed, and I was worried whether I would be able to open my mouth well. But I opened it without any problem and received treatment successfully.
Before surgery, I deliberated and worried a lot, but I am so satisfied that I think I did well to have it done! Even if I could go back, I think I would get facial contouring at Cookie again.
