I had it done at a plastic surgery clinic in Apgujeong, and I think it has been about 3 or 4 years. By calendar years, I think it’s the 4th year. My nose originally had a very severe hump. (The nasal bridge area was abnormally developed, and the nasal tip drooped downward.) I don’t have photos, but I can say that it would probably be rare to find someone more severe than me.
Anyway, for the surgical method, they first shaved down the hump. (They originally planned to do osteotomy, but the doctor said that as he shaved it, it seemed osteotomy would not be necessary, so he didn’t do it.) They raised the nasal tip by inserting ear cartilage. (I don’t remember very well whether they said they also inserted septal cartilage harvested while shaving the hump or not. ㅠㅠ) After it was done, it definitely became a straight nose, and the hump completely disappeared. When I first had surgery, it was a very smooth and high nose, but now, 3 years later, it has become a bit lower than in the first few months, and the nose is very slightly not perfectly straight, but it’s so subtle that only I can notice it. To other people, even now it just looks like a smooth straight nose.
But as is common for people with hump noses, it was originally a long nose, and after surgery the nasal tip became higher, so it did become a little shorter, but even so, the nose length is still on the long side. ㅠㅠ. Honestly, I originally wanted to ask them to make it as short as possible in a semi-upturned shape, but because my nose was so large, long, and high, the doctor said that in plastic surgery, the more you change it, the higher the chance of side effects, and that it would be better to make as small a change as possible, really just enough to remove the flaw, so I had surgery in the form of shaving only a little and raising it only a little.
But now, 3 years later, although there are no side effects or inflammation, in terms of shape, I do regret wondering what it would have been like if I had gone a little more semi-upturned then, or had osteotomy, or made it shorter, so even if not right away, I’ve developed the desire to have revision surgery someday. ㅠㅠ
Of course, if they had changed my original nose a lot back then, maybe I might have side effects now. ㅠㅠ Still, it is a bit disappointing.
Anyway, I do think hump nose surgery is safer than surgeries like inserting silicone. If it is done by shaving down what was originally there and inserting only an autologous implant at the nasal tip.
But I’m not sure about clinics that shave down the hump and then place a thin layer of silicone over it. I think the doctor said at the time that if silicone is inserted into the shaved-down area, the chance of inflammation becomes a little higher than inserting silicone into an otherwise normal nose.
