Because it was a combination of a bulbous nose + deviated septum (crooked nose), I had crooked nose correction once at an orthopedic clinic + 2 rounds at plastic surgery clinics + a 3rd cosmetic surgery because I didn't like the design. I had surgery a total of 3 times, but my nose was still a bulbous nose, and the Barbie-nose line that was popular 10 years ago started to look outdated, so I began looking for a hospital to change the design.
As I went around hospitals for examinations and consultations, I was told my rhinitis was very severe..! They said the reason I had a crooked nose was a deviated septum, and that it had worsened and become rhinitis. No wonder one side of my nose was unusually blocked with mucus, and it was hard to blow my nose too.
But since I already had experience with 3 nose surgeries and a history of having my nasal bridge broken twice, this time I was honestly pretty scared. So I thought of it as really the last time and spent several months doing legwork.
My criteria while looking around were: 1. A doctor with the skill to definitely get me out of having a bulbous nose 2. A doctor who could absolutely correct my deviated septum 3. A place run by a single representative director, not a factory-style clinic I dug deeply into just those three things.
After going to everything from large hospitals to small clinics, in the end, they clearly explained what was honestly possible and impossible, and since deviated septum has a high risk of recurrence, many people undergo revision surgery (like me). They explained how they prevent recurrence, and more than anything, design was important to me too, so after seeing with my own eyes data showing that a doctor had turned bulbous noses into pointed noses over and over again, I chose the hospital. (I even touched the director's nose myself, that's how far I went lolololol)
So I decided on Yonsei With, and as expected, the choice was right. The director operates on one person a day and records the surgical course on the hospital blog every day after surgery, so even after putting down a deposit, I didn't feel anxious.. Since people getting rhinoplasty were updated daily, there was this sense of relief, like, another bulbous nose was fixed today too...?
Before surgery, I separately had allergy testing and cardiopulmonary testing, and on the day of surgery, my previous cosmetic surgeries had taken at most 3 hours, but when they told me to come prepared for a 5-hour surgery, I was so scared and worried. The total surgery time was 7 hours;;;;; They said they did not just roughly operate and close it, but cared for everything until it was secured at a university-hospital level before closing. Apparently, when they opened it, the inside was much more serious than expected, so it took a long time haha.
And because I had surgery during Lunar New Year, except for the holiday itself, I had to go every other day for an antibiotic IV..! They gave postoperative care regardless of summer or winter because inflammation or any problem absolutely could not happen, and because the bones must not heal incorrectly inside the splint, I also visited every other day for manual work to shape the nose (I thought I was going to die). They also disinfected the inside of my nose every other day.
In conclusion, I escaped the bulbous nose, my septum did not collapse, and my rhinitis was all fixed. I am so grateful, to the point that I sincerely call him my second father....!!!!!! And maybe because it is an ENT clinic rather than a plastic surgery clinic, I felt they definitely cared for the functional aspects too.
