First, you’ll probably need the basic information from my consultations, so to talk about my conditions first, I had a lot of concerns because my left and right eyes were uneven, with an inner double eyelid on one side and not on the other, so I wanted correction and brought a video of the eye shape I wanted. In my case, I consulted for both eyes and nose, and if I talk about the nose all at once it’ll be too long, so I’ll organize that separately in the next part. (So when I write about each hospital, I’ll also note whether they took a CT just for a basic consultation.) I researched hospitals from almost a month ago, booked consultation appointments, and went around, so I’m leaving this post hoping it’ll be helpful information (and also to organize my thoughts while choosing a hospital).
The hospitals I consulted at were Apgujeong OOWell, Apgujeong Top Face, Sinnonhyeon Nana, Gangnam DA, and Gangnam Premier. The consultants at all the hospitals I visited were kind, and I deliberately went for consultations in the morning or daytime, so the directors also seemed to be in good condition. Also, because I clearly brought the eye shape I wanted, the recommended surgery plans weren’t very different, so I’ll mainly summarize what I felt about each hospital and each director during the consultations.
OOWell Director Yang HJ - This was my first consultation, so I myself didn’t even know what would be good to ask, and I had little information, but he answered every question in a comfortable tone. Meanwhile, he didn’t recommend procedures or surgeries that weren’t necessary (things that wouldn’t have much effect even if I did them), and I remember him as a director who was as kind as his impression and also accurately told me what was needed. Even though it was my first consultation, I finished it comfortably without difficulty. When I entered the hospital, they took a CT first and guided me step by step, and both the building and the hospital interior were quite clean, so I left with a very solid, neutral impression.
Nana Director Kim YH - This person is famous for noses, but I consulted about eyes too. Maybe because of that, when talking about the eyes, he didn’t just look at the eyes but clearly explained the limitations based on the position of the cheekbones and the bone structure. Maybe because he was older, I remember receiving the consultation with an even more comfortable mind. The hospital did not do a CT scan, and the consultation was mainly based on what was visible to the naked eye and my own explanation.
Top Face Director Lee YH - As soon as he saw the video I brought, he immediately understood the type of look and listed the necessary surgeries. He directly held things up to my eyes and often said, “I think it will suit you well,” and “I think it will turn out pretty.” It’s important to give an accurate diagnosis and explain the limitations, but he made me feel that, in the end, a single comment like that can be what moves your heart. He also seemed confident about the surgery. Likewise, there was no CT scan, and I remember the consultation time being very short but impactful.
DA Director Choi JH - Among the hospitals I visited, this was the biggest one, so the waiting time was long, but I felt a definite sense of reliability because of that. First of all, he was kind, but what impressed me most was his confidence about the surgery and his precise explanations. He didn’t overly push things that were needed, and he also relieved my worries and concerns about incisional versus non-incisional methods. I remember several things he said that made me think of the surgery itself a little more lightly. (Example - I’m worried non-incisional will come undone / Having eyes that can be done non-incisionally is a blessing. Try it first, and if you don’t like it, it’s good enough that it can be released; if you like it but it comes undone, you can do incisional then. It’s comfortable to think of non-incisional as a surgery you pass through.) Things like that. They did do a CT scan, and because the hospital was so big, there are some parts I’m worried about, but based on the consultation result, it was the most memorable hospital.
Premier Director Jang YJ - Since he’s famous for eyes, I had some expectations, and maybe because he’s the representative director, there was a consultation fee of 10,000 won. Unlike all the previous hospitals that diagnosed me as sufficient for non-incisional surgery, he recommended incisional surgery, and the reasons he explained were things I had never heard at any other hospital, so it was a fresh shock. It’s not that the feeling was bad; the moment I heard it, the diagnoses seemed like ones that could only be made by accurately understanding me and the eye shape I wanted. Even when he said that the eye shape I wanted wouldn’t come out, he was a director I could trust. They also did a CT scan, and even informed me that the waiting time was delayed because of surgery being pushed back. For me, the hospital was full of things that made me trust them.
That’s the process of how I went around for consultations, and if I summarize the conclusion I got from it a little, for now I’m debating between two hospitals. Unfortunately, I don’t plan to receive surgery from Director Jang, whom I said I trusted the most. That’s because I concluded there’s no need to do incisional surgery if the eye shape I want won’t come out, and I’m debating between Director Yang and Director Choi, who both suggested non-incisional surgery. Both hospitals explained postoperative care well, and I think they caught the emotional part of my questions well, so I chose them as my final options.
