I’m debating between silicone vs AlloDerm for the nasal bridge.
Has anyone had silicone side effects after 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years? I’m looking into revision surgery, and I’m in my 5th year with silicone in my nasal bridge. My nose is gradually turning upward, so I’m preparing for revision surgery.. Aside from the shape, I haven’t had any side effects so far, but while looking into revision surgery, I’m really torn over whether to use silicone or AlloDerm for the nasal bridge.. I really don’t want to have any more surgery after this one ㅜㅜ
AlloDerm pros: less inflammation and fewer side effects, more natural than silicone AlloDerm cons: hard to predict absorption rate; if it ever needs to be removed, removal is very difficult; sometimes it can absorb unevenly and become bumpy
Silicone pros: the shape lasts for life Silicone cons: inflammation, hardness? As 5 or 10 years pass, the nose may become upturned ㅠ
Usually, many people use silicone for the nasal bridge. Because there is no shape change and it is simple. But the possibility of inflammation can’t be ignored. (I’d have to live always thinking that inflammation could someday happen to me too. What would it be like when I’m in my 40s, 50s, or 60s..?)
With AlloDerm, it’s hard to guarantee shape maintenance. But comparatively, for the nasal bridge it’s the safest... (There are so few reviews and pieces of information on AlloDerm nasal bridges at 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years.) My nasal bridge isn’t extremely low or high, it’s just exactly moderate, and my skin is on the thin side..
I decided on autologous costal cartilage for the columellar strut, but I’m debating whether to do the nasal bridge with AlloDerm.. or silicone again.
For anyone who has tried AlloDerm for the nasal bridge, how was the absorption after 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, or 10 years? Please, could you let me know? ㅠㅠ
