Eye Surgery Reviews@eye-review

A review after getting lateral, lower, and medial canthoplasty, though my eyes are still small, they are better than before

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋHi After lurking, I remembered how much I agonized over canthoplasty too, so I’m writing this review even though it has already been 3 years. Or has it been 4 years? I’m just going to ramble, almost like casual chatter.

My eyes were originally very small, like clam-shaped eyes, so I got medial, lateral, and lower canthoplasty. Back when I had surgery, upper canthoplasty was still an unfamiliar procedure, so it was not even mentioned during consultation!

Canthoplasty-type surgeries are also procedures with a lot of concern about side effects, so I kept only worrying about it, then decided to look into it myself and went around for consultations. (Maybe because I was young then, I was brave and only went to 2 places;) Doctors do tend to gloss over side effects, but... I was strangely convinced when they said that if the canthoplasty is not “excessive,” there are fewer side effects, so I went for it. I chose the hospital after chatting with another member on a community and getting a recommendation. I really had no answer back then. But that person’s result was so good that I trusted them and went. (For reference, I paid a lot... ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It was almost the price of a revision double-eyelid surgery at the time.)

During consultation, what I said the most was, “I don’t want anything excessive, so please open them up prettily, just enough that there won’t be side effects.” ㅋㅋㅋ As you know... lower and medial canthoplasty are surgeries that often cause functional problems too, so I think it’s right to be careful.

For about a week after surgery, you really look like a monster. Because the eyes droop down and all that.

Looking at photos now, around one month after surgery was the prettiest..ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It was the teary, dewy look I wanted. About a week and a half after removing the stitches, the foreign-body sensation from the lower canthoplasty thread disappears. It disappears so much that you may wonder if it broke.

First, to write about the parts people will probably be most curious about..

Removing the stitches was less painful than I thought,

As for medial canthoplasty.. I got my double-eyelid surgery at another hospital, and later when I visited that hospital, the doctor said my medial canthoplasty looked so natural that you couldn’t even tell I had it done^^ㅋㅋ It was opened in a way that doesn’t look unattractive, just enough to relieve the stuffiness, and the lacrimal caruncle exposure is moderate.

It’s not enough to call it a side effect, but still, a possible problem? is that I did have a hook-like scar left. Rather than a scar, more like a hook shape? They said that for people with strong pulling force from the epicanthal fold, unless the lacrimal caruncle is completely exposed, this can’t be helped.

Still, I felt uneasy, so I went to the hospital and asked. They compared my before-and-after photos and said this part had already existed before, but after opening it slightly, the shape of that area changed and I became conscious of it, so it felt that way. Surprisingly, they were right.

It was a part that existed even before surgery, and it just became more noticeable after opening the area. Additionally, I thought a wrinkle? or wrinkle mark had formed under my eye, but that had also existed originally and became more noticeable after medial canthoplasty.

When it hadn’t been long since surgery, these parts bothered me so, so much, but it was just because I had surgery and kept staring at my eyes every day. No one else knows, and even I originally hadn’t known about those areas ㅎ

I let this part pass because my personality isn’t sensitive, but sensitive people can’t tolerate these things and end up getting revision surgery or other procedures. In other words, although I took it lightly, it also means the mark/scar may be serious enough that others would not take it lightly.

These are things that are harder to know than you’d think before surgery, so I hope you think carefully about them.

As for lateral and lower canthoplasty.. honestly, when I look in the mirror now, my eyes still look kind of clam-like.. so I wonder, didn’t this completely go back? But when I look at old photos, it was worse before ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It has reattached quite a lot, but anyway, there is an effect.

Still, I really hope you’re careful with lateral and lower canthoplasty. The more you open them, the bigger your eyes do get..

To give a simple example, if you look at famous canthoplasty hospitals that often come up in this community too, they do have a style that makes the eyes dramatically bigger.. but if you look closely, ㄷ-shaped scarring is really not even the big issue. There are also many cases where the eyes look subtly bloodshot. If you look closely at the back part, you’ll often see that it isn’t attached to the eyeball and the mucous membrane is separated. That’s what side effects are.

Even if you just search lateral and lower canthoplasty photos on Google, although they are photos posted on the hospital’s official website as supposedly good results, there are many cases where the back part of the eye is bright red and the ㄷ-shaped scar looks bad.

The more greedy you get, the bigger and bigger the risk seems to become (obviously).

Other than this, it’s also fairly common for people to be unable to smile with their eyes after lower canthoplasty. The whole face smiles but only the eyes don’t, so many people have a hard time with it. There can also be functional problems from mucosal exposure because it was lowered too much..

With medial canthoplasty too, there are quite a lot of stories about severe lacrimal caruncle exposure from opening too much causing aesthetic problems, or foreign material constantly getting in and vision decreasing.

I’m not recommending the surgery itself, but if you have definitely decided to do it, I think doing it within moderation is also a good option.

Of course, in that case, the effect is not miraculous~~. No one knows I had canthoplasty either. They just say I got prettier. About that much? To see a bigger effect, you have to accept a bigger risk... I didn’t have that much courage.

Actually, what I felt most strongly after canthoplasty was, “If you’re sensitive, you shouldn’t get plastic surgery.” Even after surgery, I looked up this and that, and there were many people who were really, really distressed over hook-like scars or marks similar to mine (sometimes even less than mine). If not that, there were also many cases where people were dissatisfied with the degree of improvement and got revision surgery..

What surgery doesn’t come with worries, but still, this is a surgery that involves a lot of thinking, and I was like that too, so I’m leaving a review. Still, since it’s an experience from someone who actually had the surgery, I hope it helps a little!
