First of all, I have a face with a protruding chin and malocclusion. I had an orthodontic consultation when I was young too, but I was diagnosed as a two-jaw surgery case.
Even though I have malocclusion, it doesn’t interfere with my daily life at all, so I just lived with the way I looked. Recently, though, my stress about my face shape suddenly got much worse, so I started looking into various things.
First, I needed to determine whether my face could be improved with facial contouring, or whether I really needed two-jaw surgery, so I decided I should get consultations at both plastic surgery clinics and oral and maxillofacial clinics.
1. ㅇㄹ (no consultation fee) As soon as I made up my mind, I figured I should at least get a quote as quickly as possible, so I installed an app and blindly called the first place that caught my eye, then visited. The consultation was in the order of director-consultation manager. I asked the director about two-jaw surgery or facial contouring, and they said that since it doesn’t interfere with daily life, I didn’t necessarily have to go as far as two-jaw surgery. They said even the 3 facial contouring procedures could improve the asymmetry to some extent. I got a quote for chin-tip sandwich osteotomy, side jaw incision, and cheekbone osteotomy. It was probably even more so because I visited without really knowing much, but I was a bit surprised that the consultation ended very quickly. The consultation manager pushed the deposit a little.
2. ㅂㅌ (no consultation fee) After visiting place 1, I looked around more into facial contouring, and I liked the designs in the reviews quite a bit, so I visited. The consultation order was consultation manager-director-consultation manager. The consultation manager was very kind. After discussing which part bothered me the most and what face shape I wanted, I went in for the director’s consultation. The director here said facial contouring could reduce facial size and refine the line, but improving asymmetry would be difficult, and if asymmetry was my bigger concern, they recommended two-jaw surgery a bit more. They told me to think it over, saying that once I get facial contouring, I won’t be able to have two-jaw surgery. When I said I wanted to resolve it with facial contouring if possible, even during the facial contouring consultation, I could feel that they were considering it in detail while touching and checking my face from the front in various ways. They said my nerve line is somewhat low, so I couldn’t have a side jaw incision and would need cortical osteotomy. As a result, I received a quote for anterior chin T-osteotomy and setback, L-shaped long-curve square jaw surgery on the side jaw through cortical osteotomy, and cheekbone osteotomy.
3. ㅇㅍㅅㅌ (no consultation fee) If I ended up getting facial contouring, this was one of the places where I most wanted to have surgery, so I visited with high expectations. They took CT scans in two rounds total. Here too, the consultation was in the order of consultation manager-director-consultation manager. Likewise, the consultation manager was kind. After first discussing things like the design I wanted, I went to see the director. To start with the conclusion, they refused surgery ...ㅠ They said improving asymmetry would be difficult with facial contouring, and that I was a case where two-jaw surgery would be much more effective. I wanted to at least get a quote, so I kept talking with them a little longer, but they firmly recommended two-jaw surgery based on their judgment. It did feel empty, but because they recommended two-jaw surgery with such conviction, I also started leaning toward two-jaw surgery and said I understood. I was curious about the CT images taken in two rounds, but I came out without even getting to look at them. (They said I can only take the CT images if I have surgery there.)
I’m planning to do more online research mainly on two-jaw surgery, go around for more consultations, and then decide.
