There is a ligament between the alar cartilages, and they cut that and set up a support strut. Then, when it is removed, there is no ligament connecting the alar cartilages, so if cartilage tying is not done, wouldn’t the nose collapse? In reality, one hospital said that after removal, they help the alar cartilages settle into place by applying pressure with the skin and cotton placed inside the nose after removal. Another hospital said cartilage tying after removal is not optional but mandatory. Someone who had removal at a hospital that does not tie the cartilage said that over time, the alar cartilage crus or scar tissue protruded, and someone else tied the cartilage when removing it, then loosened it all…
