This is my review 10 months after SMILE LASIK-! My original eyesight was different in each eye, -5 and -6. I also had astigmatism and had been living with contact lenses for 13 years, but after the exam they said SMILE LASIK was possible, so I scheduled the surgery right away and had it a week later. After the surgery, my eyes only felt a bit heavy and stinging on the day of the procedure, and from the next day I could pretty much go about daily life! And I think my satisfaction is really high. First of all, my eyes aren’t dry because of lenses anymore, and I’m so happy that I don’t have to take out my lenses and wash up at night.. If I had to call something a side effect, there is a little glare/halos around lights at night, but since I originally had astigmatism, I don’t think it bothers me much or counts as a major side effect! I don’t have to wear lenses all day, I can see so well when washing up, and not having to wear glasses feels like such a big advantage, so that level of glare is worth putting up with. Now I understand why my friend who did it first recommended it so strongly..! After getting it done, I’m the one going around recommending it to my other friends!
I heard that some people who had it done 10 years ago get dry eyes in the morning or have a lot of tearing, but I don’t have those issues yet. Still, I do think it’s true that you have to consistently take care of your eyes so they don’t get dry!
