If you look at the photos, only my right eye had an inner double eyelid, and it formed naturally after I got hurt when I was young. Because of my uneven eyes, I always went around opening my eyes wide with extra force. Normally even my girlfriend couldn’t tell my eyes were uneven, but when I took photos, one eyelid looked noticeably droopy.
During the consultation, I said I wanted three things: bigger-looking eyes, keeping monolids, and correcting uneven eyes. They said that unless I did at least an inner double eyelid, they couldn’t make my eyes look bigger. And they said my uneven eyes were due to my bone structure, so there was a limit to matching the eye heights through an upper eyelid incision. They also said that although it would be monolid ptosis correction, a very thin inner double eyelid would form. However, they said that through ptosis correction, the eye size I normally got only when forcing my eyes open would be maintained even when relaxed.
They say inner double eyelids are the trend, but I had some pride(?) in my monolids too And since I’m a man, I didn’t want others to notice I had plastic surgery. So I had the surgery as monolid ptosis correction. To correct the uneven eyes, they incised a little more on the droopy left eyelid to match the line, and removed a little fat while doing it.
After the surgery, the inner double eyelid that had originally been on my right side disappeared, and a really, really thin inner double eyelid formed on both sides, but looking at it now while writing this, that’s gone too. Honestly, even the inner double eyelids were only barely visible if I put a mirror right in front of my face and flipped my eyelids, so I wasn’t paying attention to them. They really became monolids.
It’s been about two and a half months, and even looking at the before and after, I don’t think I changed dramatically. Even now, when I take photos, the unevenness remains because of the eye height. It’s just really comfortable not having to force my eyes open.
As you know, people don’t deliberately keep bad photos, so I don’t have many before photos where the uneven eyes came out very severe. Almost all of them are photos where I was forcing my eyes open Without forcing them, my eyelid was droopier than in the first and second photos. And I didn’t deliberately exaggerate the after with good lighting or Photoshop. If anything, the conditions are worse than the before..
I want to explain the side effects. From the second day after surgery, because of tear film expansion, my vision was blurry for about two weeks. I couldn’t see the TV, my phone, or the computer; I just couldn’t see anything in the world. Tears would stream down at all times.
Now even the residual swelling is all gone, but the double-eyelid line? Eyebrow line? That area sometimes gets itchy. It’s not extremely severe, just to the point where if I gently scratch it with my fingernail, it feels refreshing. Since I was young, when I lay down to sleep, tears would come out a little without me realizing it, and that frequency has become a bit more frequent. So when I wake up, I get some eye discharge, which I didn’t used to have. Recently, once, my eye stung a lot, like sweat had gotten into it. Those are the side effects. They’re not uncomfortable enough to affect daily life, so there isn’t much else I remember.
Rather, the swelling lasted longer than I expected. The major swelling all went down around weeks 2 to 3, but I think the residual swelling lasted about two months. Even when I went outside at one month, my eyes were more puffy than after eating ramen, and people asked if I’d gotten Botox around my eyes. And at first, I did cold compresses for too long, so I got yellow bruising around my eyes. That also lasted about a week.
After the semester started, my friends told me my impression looked clearer. They said something seemed different but they couldn’t tell what, and that it looked like I had lost weight. It’s not a dramatic change, but personally I don’t regret it. If you’re deliberating like I was, I think this can be a reference. That was my review.
