I had LASEK surgery in February 2023. I went to consultations at several places, and I chose this place because they were using the latest laser equipment at the time. My corneas are on the thicker side, so I decided on LASEK, which makes retreatment easier than SMILE LASIK, and the cost was 1.6 million won for both eyes after a college entrance exam discount and other discounts.
After the consultation, I had the surgery about a month and a half later. I do not remember the surgical process in detail, but it was a surgery where they kept putting eye drops in my eyes while my eyes were open and applied the laser. They spray the eye drops well so there is no need to close your eyes, so you do not need to worry about accidentally blinking.
For 4 days after surgery, my eyes stung a lot just from opening them, and I barely got through it by constantly putting in artificial tears. Exactly from day 5, the pain started to decrease, but since it had not fully healed yet, everything looked blurry overall. From week 2, I gradually felt my vision being corrected. My final visual acuity is 1.0 in both eyes. (Previous vision: left eye 0.1 with astigmatism / right eye 0.5)
As side effects, I have glare/halos and dry eye syndrome. Both tend to weaken to some extent over time. For about 5 months after surgery, I put in artificial tears several times a day, but after that my dry eye syndrome disappeared. At first, with glare, even when I looked at streetlights at night, the light spread out in a cross shape, but now I only have trouble looking at very bright light or sunlight. It does not interfere with daily life.
Overall, I am very satisfied with LASEK surgery. My vision was not extremely bad in daily life, so I kept putting glasses on and taking them off, but the feeling of the bridge of my nose being pressed was subtly uncomfortable, and I could not get used to it. After LASEK, I no longer have to squint to see, and living with a wide-open field of vision makes me really happy.
