Nose Surgery Reviews

My nose turned purple after rhinoplasty

I had revision rhinoplasty at the beginning of this year, including osteotomy, autologous costal cartilage, and lengthening of the tip. Immediately after surgery, the tip was blue, but it was the same after my first surgery, so I did not consider it a major problem and waited for the splint and nasal packing to be removed. Normally the packing is removed after three days, but because I had an osteotomy, I had packing inside my nose for a week.

The problem was that on the day the splint and packing were removed, something white seemed visible at the tip of my left nose, and it looked purplish. I assumed it was because the surgery was recent and let it go, but inflammation developed above my left nostril. I told the clinic it seemed inflamed, but they said it was not inflammation (?) I said okay and went home.

Even after returning home, something felt strange and I was anxious, so I made another appointment. On my next visit, they admitted it was inflammation, gave me an injection for inflammation, and prescribed medication. After that, scar tissue caused by the inflammation developed above my left nostril and also in my right nostril. The scar tissue on the left is not noticeable unless viewed up close, but the scar tissue on the right is extremely obvious.

Actually, the bigger problem was separate: the tip first turned red and then purple. It turns purple whenever my body gets even slightly cold. The photos do not capture how severe it is, but the clinic only irresponsibly said that circulation did not seem good and told me to wait. I am not a doctor, and I was not the person who performed the surgery, so I followed the doctor’s advice and waited.

It has now been nearly eight months, but it has not improved at all—if anything, it has gotten worse. It is relatively okay when warm, but when it turns purple in the cold, the tip hurts terribly along with tenderness. I have already booked a CT at a university hospital, and the results will come out in early November.

The plastic surgery clinic says they will operate again, but I am so anxious and scared. I am not afraid of having surgery itself; I am afraid that my nose will go wrong again, or become even worse than it is now. I do not know whether I should have another operation at the same clinic or what I should do.
