Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Protruding mouth + facial shape concerns = two-jaw surgery (day-by-day review)

Hello, it’s been 2 weeks since I had two-jaw surgery and contouring x3 (cheekbones + square jaw + chin) from Director Lee Seok-jae at Y Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic!

I decided to have surgery at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery because of my severe complexes about my facial shape, such as protruding mouth, asymmetry, and a rough contour, and because of the director’s experience, one surgery per day, and the fact that CCTV observation was possible.

Before surgery A month before surgery, I had an internal medicine exam, blood tests, and a wafer made. The test results showed my iron level was a little low, so I additionally got two iron injections.

Day of surgery Surgery was the first slot at 10 o’clock, and after changing into patient clothes, I met the director and went straight into the operating room. Right after surgery, when I woke up in the morning, I was not as sleepy as I expected, just a bit dazed. And because of my rhinitis, I often breathe through my mouth, so mouth breathing was not as hard as I thought, but my mouth getting very dry was hard. That day, after the anesthesia wore off, I just rinsed my mouth with water, and because my mouth was so dry, I woke up often in the middle.

Day 2 Around 8 o’clock, they removed the urinary catheter, then after a swelling laser treatment, the director removed the drain and taught me how to bite the wafer. I also had a runny nose and my mouth was extremely swollen, so swallowing water, New Care, and saliva was difficult, but I thought I had to learn at least one thing at the hospital so things would be a little less hard at home, so I tried my best to figure out how to swallow.

Days 3-5 The runny nose and swelling inside my mouth continued, so it was hard to close my mouth and hard to swallow medicine, and I struggled with bloody phlegm. But after a lump of blood came out of my mouth, the feeling of phlegm stuck in my throat disappeared. And because I had to sleep sitting up even at night, my back hurt terribly. I ate New Care and Pocari.

Days 6-8 Sometimes phlegm gets stuck, but it goes down quickly. And now I can close my mouth, and the runny nose and nasal blockage are gone. I had bruising under my eyes, but it quickly moved down toward my neck. My cheeks and jaw are still puffy, and I rinsed my mouth often. From this point on, I slept lying down with a high pillow.

Day 9 Compared with the previous day, the bruising was turning yellow and the swelling had gone down a lot. On this day I went to the hospital for my first follow-up, and I received swelling laser treatment and oral disinfection. From this point on, I ate things like steamed egg or finely blended porridge. And after meals, I took out the wafer and gently brushed my teeth with a baby toothbrush.

Days 10-14 I went for my second follow-up on day 13, and at that time they removed the sideburn stitches and the intraoral stitches. I was worried because I heard it would hurt a lot when the stitches in the mouth were removed, but it only stung a little around the philtrum. The director also taught me the a-e-i-o-u sounds and mouth exercises, and I received swelling laser treatment as well. From this time on, I mainly ate foods that could melt gently in my mouth, such as steamed egg, porridge, and cake.

It has only been 2 weeks, so I still have squirrel-like swelling, but I’m so satisfied that my mouth has moved in and my jawline, cheekbones, and overall face line are already taking shape! Since I’m wearing a wafer, it’s hard to talk a lot, but all normal daily activities are possible.
