I had skin with a lot of freckles and melasma, and after deliberation I bought a 10-session package (50). On the first day I got IPL, and maybe because they applied numbing cream? it was tolerable. Pigment that was in some shallow areas turned dark and peeled off lol But after the first session, I almost never saw anything turning black and peeling off again (I got about 3 sessions). They said toning only shows results after several sessions, so I've just been getting it done, but.... Maybe because there was no numbing cream, it hurt If it hurt just a little more, it would be to the point that tears would well up? It was still bearable. But even though I bought a 10-session package, maybe to save on the vitamin ampoule mask pack, they slyly tried to do it as 2 sessions each time.
