After deciding to get bulbous nose surgery, I went to consultations at three hospitals, all of which had good reviews in a community. One was an ENT clinic, and two were plastic surgery clinics.
1. ㄹㅂㅅ A consultation that ended very quickly... I met the doctor right away without a consultation with a consultant. Maybe because it was an ENT clinic, they first checked the inside of my nose with something like an endoscope. I brought a review photo from their website where the before photo looked similar to me, but the conclusion was that they did not recommend surgery. They don’t perform procedures like nostril base reduction here, and they told me that with my current nose, I should just live as I am rather than have surgery. I liked that they were honest, but since they said they didn’t recommend it, okay. End.
2. ㅇㄹㅂ Had a CT scan, then consultation with the consultant > director. Maybe because it was a plastic surgery clinic, they said surgery was possible and explained that it was not easy, but not a difficult surgery either. They recommended correcting the bulbous nose using both septal cartilage and ear cartilage and inserting about 3.5 mm of silicone, but said it could be done without silicone if I didn’t want it. They also recommended nostril base reduction together, but since I hadn’t been considering nostril base reduction, they said I didn’t have to do it if I didn’t want to. But they said this hospital is famous for nostril base reduction.. Overall, it felt like they don’t stop people from coming in and don’t cling to people who leave. I could feel their confidence in their skills, and the director also felt communicative.
3. ㅇㄹ A very meticulous director. This was also the longest consultation. I found out here that my nostrils are small. The director first tried to listen to what I wanted, and because the consultation was very meticulous and detailed, I thought about it a lot. Rather than looking only at the nose, they consider the proportions of the whole face and place importance on overall harmony. For that reason, they kept persuading me that it would be better to insert silicone. They said the surgery time is longer than other places, but that is because they are meticulous. Apparently, if you send photos to the hospital the day before surgery, the director studies them before coming in. They also said you go to the hospital often after surgery, and the director checks you every time.
For now, I’m going to have nose surgery using septal cartilage, ear cartilage, and silicone, and I’m still thinking about nostril base reduction. Between 2 and 3, I’ve pretty much made up my mind.
