I went to consultations at several places for lower eyelid fat repositioning, and there are parts I’m unsure about, so I’m sharing the consultation details.
I have a hollow under-eye type, and every place I visited recommended fat grafting.
What I’m worried about is that the place I had originally decided on in my mind is a clinic that doesn’t recommend unnecessary procedures, but there are two things that bother me.
1. Even if it’s okay now, I’m worried the septum might weaken as I age, so I want septal reinforcement. But the place I had originally decided on says that in hollow types like mine, the septum usually does not become loose easily, so it isn’t necessary. (They said if they open it up and it seems loose, they will take measures. For reference, this doctor does do septal reinforcement for bulging types.)
2. I have asymmetric Indian bands, and when I mentioned it, they said that because the muscle is connected, it would be better to first do the repositioning, see how much it improves, and then add fat grafting later if needed.
This place also guarantees aftercare for 3 years, has one doctor, and is famous enough that it takes a month just to get a consultation appointment. The doctor emphasizes that the surgical method should differ depending on whether the under-eye area is bulging or hollow. They use local anesthesia, so swelling is less, and although the price is on the expensive side, it’s a clinic that doesn’t require things like review conditions. The doctor is confident and seems good, and I have already booked the surgery, but the two points above are bothering me.
The second clinic I’m considering also has a doctor I trust, but the clinic itself is more factory-like. Even without me bringing it up first, they said that if there are Indian bands, lower eyelid fat repositioning tends to make the lines look more prominent and most people are dissatisfied, so they would do fat grafting together. They also said septal reinforcement is included by default. They use sedation anesthesia, and from the reviews, people looked extremely swollen. Still, the reviews are generally good, though there is a condition requiring you to write a review.
Would you do it at the place I currently booked, or would you choose the second clinic? None of my acquaintances have done it, so I have nowhere to ask.
