Nose Re-Surgery

My nose shape was a mess after silicone calcification... (VN revision surgery review)

Even looking at my preoperative photos now makes me sigh... I had silicone rhinoplasty 20 years ago. It looked fine at first, but as time passed, I increasingly felt that my nostrils were showing. Then I looked at photos and confirmed it wasn't just my imagination: the tip of my nose was gradually lifting, and my nostrils were visible. My nose became asymmetrical and pinched-looking, and the shape started to look strange... I decided I couldn't go on like this, so I thoroughly researched silicone removal and revision surgery. I had surgery at [Clinic A].

Because I had silicone for 20 years, a capsule had formed. It wasn't normal—it had become abnormally thick (I suspect this may have made my nose look even more distorted T_T). I thought the surgeon's skill was absolutely crucial for removing it cleanly, so I visited all the hospitals known for silicone removal. I liked Dr. Oh Seung-il's explanation best because it was clear and not overly forceful, so I booked surgery right away.

On the day of surgery, the shape of my nose was redesigned at the hospital, and the doctor explained the material to be used and the surgical method once again. I woke up, and the surgery was over.

Recovery was uneventful. Since it was revision surgery, I expected severe swelling and bruising, but although there was some swelling, the bruising was not too bad. Right after the splint was removed, my nose looked so large that I was startled, but after a month, the major swelling had gone down and the shape seemed to have settled. They say the residual swelling still needs to decrease, but I don't think it will change much from here. My nostrils are symmetrical, the overall shape is well balanced, and I like it.

If you have had silicone for a long time like me, be sure to check the condition of the capsule too. It seems revision surgery is more likely to succeed when the capsule is removed cleanly along with the silicone.
