I decided on liposuction and started doing a ton of research from last fall. At first I narrowed it down to about 20 places on Gangnam Unnie and Babitalk where all kinds of fake reviews and brokers were running wild and the before/after photos looked dramatic.
Then I joined all 6 cafes, including Jisalsa, Foxy, Gaasa, Plastic Surgery Wiki, G&G, and Weight Loss by Liposuction, and narrowed it down to about 10 places recommended a lot that did not overlap with Gangnam Unnie or Babitalk.
After that, I joined this community and posted in the plastic surgery board asking for hospital recommendations, then got about 6 or 7 recommendations.
From the roughly 40 places I collected this way, I filtered again and again through premium reviews from this community, Google searches, official sites, Instagram, and initial-consonant searches, and found the strongest hospitals by area.
The area that stressed me out the most in my life was my thighs, and people say that if you do the whole body, it is usually done from upper body to lower body. Since I am an ordinary office worker and needed to rest as much as possible with the fewest days off, I decided to schedule the thigh procedure, which people said would be the most painful and hardest to recover from, together with the holiday before Lunar New Year.
The director gave me a detailed full-body consultation for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Features of Gangnam Yalemi - First-generation liposuction, specializing in calf debulking - Very safety-conscious, but the results are thorough - No incidents, and they have kept the same hospital name at the same location all this time - For someone like me who is overweight, the cost was reasonable - No consultation fee, and the consultation is sincere and detailed for a long time - Specializes in revision surgery and lower body procedures - InBody analysis + palpation - No brokers or outside advertising at all (= meaning it is a real hidden gem that only people who know through acquaintances know about, and they are not the kind of merchants who push for same-day payment or haggle over prices)
My pelvis was small, so my inner thigh was more likely to protrude than my riding-saddle area, so if I did 360-degree thighs, I would end up with a line-less bone leg. He said to skip the riding-saddle area and do only the front thigh, inner thigh, and back thigh so the riding-saddle area would create the illusion of a pelvic line.
I trusted the director's eye and said okay. Some reviews here say the facility is shabby, and it is not one of those flashy, all-white marble places with a huge floor area these days. But it has its own kind of antique feel, so it is not bad. And since a better facility has nothing to do with my surgery, and I knew the cost of a modern interior would just be baked into my surgery bill, I was satisfied.
People say the hospital facilities are outdated, but in the end, the doctor's hand skill is what matters. Even if the place is old, they still did all the same pre-op blood tests, InBody, and ECG, and since it was my first liposuction surgery, I had a lot of questions and asked a lot of confused things, but the manager replied promptly even late at night on weekends (from the overall care and consultations, I think she is a nurse, not a consultation manager).
My first surgery was at 10 o'clock, and before surgery they disinfected me and worked my whole thighs with a massage gun to help the fat come out well. The surgery started around 11 and lasted about 3 hours, and after going to recovery I lay there getting a 2-hour IV drip, then took a photo after looking at the gap between my thighs in emotion, reported to my coworkers that I was alive, and went home.
Some doctors put in a lot of solution during surgery, and some put in less. There is no single correct answer, but this hospital used the minimum amount of solution.
So if you look at the fat container, excluding the 200 cc of red solution that settled at the bottom, they removed 2,200 cc from both thighs. That means 1,100 cc from one thigh, and that equals 1.1 kg. If you search "1 kg of fat" on Naver, you will understand. 1 kg of fat is not a small volume.
Usually, places that inject a lot of solution have the fat absorb the solution, so even if people say they removed 3,000 cc or 4,000 cc, if a lot of time passes and you look at the fat container again, the solution has settled and the pure fat is much less than that. (Of course, to confirm that, you would already have been discharged from recovery before much time passed.. haha;)
If I really had 4,000 cc of pure fat removed, my weight should have dropped by 4 kg (at least about 3.7 kg even allowing for some swelling right after surgery). But in reviews, there are often posts saying they removed 5,000 cc, and visually the effect is dramatic, but strangely the weight only dropped by 2 kg. That is this kind of case.
Anyway, I came home with muscle soreness like I had walked around a school track 20 laps with a duck-like walk, and since it felt more manageable than expected, I even walked my dog and did a Carrot Market transaction... haha
From the next day, they said I could shower after putting a waterproof bandage on the incision, so I did that, and when I took off the compression garment, there were purple and blue bruises all over my thighs, and the swelling was extremely tight and puffy.
I had already prepared in advance by going to a Jongno pharmacy where the prices were cheap and getting the three-piece set of pre-op swelling medicine, waterproof bandages, bruise cream, danggui su san, and so on, so I was able to stay calm and not get surprised.
I had surgery on Friday, and today is day 1. When I first woke up and walked, it felt awful, but once I kept walking, it became manageable, so I went out to meet a friend and ate a meal too... haha
And since a lot of people said they would cry when sitting on the toilet, I bought a female urination device in advance, and it really was good...? haha When I tried peeing standing up, I thought men must have it so convenient...
I cannot say this place is absolutely the best, but it is run with integrity by someone who proudly puts their name on the line, so if you are considering thigh liposuction, calf liposuction, or calf debulking, I think it might be worth adding this place to your consultation list~
I used to strongly recommend the hospital where I had my nose surgery, but after seeing a comment saying someone was suffering from complications there, from then on I could not strongly recommend even a place where I had a good result
Oh, and I also looked at other people’s reviews, and they really do a great job removing fat from the arms and abdomen too haha There are quite a few reviews saying that after getting the thighs done by the director, they trusted him enough to do the whole body, so keep that in mind!
