My face was originally wide and angular overall, and I also had asymmetry, so I did not like taking front-facing photos T_T One cheekbone and jawline stood out more, so after taking photos I always checked my face shape first.
When researching contouring surgery, I mainly looked for reviews from people with wide, asymmetrical faces like mine. I made a list and consulted at ID, where they examined my face overall while looking at the CT. I initially thought I only needed to reduce my prominent cheekbones and square jaw, but they explained that facial shape depends on how the overall proportions and lines connect rather than viewing each area separately.
I also mentioned being concerned about facial asymmetry. I said I wanted my current wide, angular impression to become softer, rather than having an overly small, sharp face. After the consultation, I decided on three-part contouring: cheekbone reduction, square-jaw reduction, and chin-tip surgery.
The side cheekbones bothered me most, so I was especially curious how different my face would look from the front after surgery. Now that much of the swelling has gone down, comparing before-and-after photos, the outer contour of my face clearly looks different haha. Before, my side cheekbones caught my eye first, but now they stand out less and the overall facial line looks softer.
What I am quietly most satisfied with is the asymmetry. Of course, both sides are not exactly identical as if measured with a ruler, but I no longer look for the asymmetry first when viewing photos haha. The chin tip also flows naturally from the square jaw rather than looking excessively pointed, so the overall face shape feels more refined instead of the cheekbones and jaw looking changed separately.
Before surgery, my biggest thought was simply that I wanted a smaller face, but afterward I am more satisfied that the overall balance looks better than the size itself. I had been stressed about my face shape for years, but these days I have also stopped zooming in on my facial lines first after taking photos haha. If you have a wide face and asymmetry and are considering contouring, just take this as an example of one possible case!
