Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

My confidence in videos and photos improved so much after double-jaw surgery!!!

Hello. On July 7, I finished presurgical orthodontics at Y Oral Surgery, then had double-jaw surgery and two facial-contouring procedures (square-jaw and chin). I am now approaching my third month!! I had worried about my face shape and jaw for a long time. Because I often take videos and photos as a hobby, I was conscious of my face shape every time and frequently edited my jaw area. Especially in profile, my jaw seemed long and protruding, like malocclusion and a prominent lower jaw, and it was asymmetrical. I kept feeling stressed because makeup and hair could only hide it so much, and I eventually began considering surgery. I knew double-jaw surgery was a major operation and that recovery would take a long time, so I was very scared at first. I first looked into whether orthodontics could solve it, but the dentists I visited said surgery was the answer, so I searched for more hospitals. I felt my concern was not simply my face shape but also the position of my jaw and my overall balance, so I eventually began researching double-jaw surgery. When choosing a hospital, I looked at many before-and-after photos and had thorough consultations. Since it was a major operation, I think I focused on how well they understood what I wanted and how specifically they explained my facial condition, rather than deciding based only on results. I had already researched a lot, so I did not have many questions, but I felt reassured because they gave realistic, detailed answers. Even so, I did not decide on surgery immediately without worries after the consultation; I kept thinking about it after coming home. I often wondered, ‘Is it really okay for me to do this?’ I was so scared when it was actually time to proceed T_T. Still, my desire to properly resolve the issue that had bothered me for so long became stronger than my desire to keep deliberating, so I decided on surgery. Honestly, right after surgery I was in no state to think about the result. The swelling was severe, breathing was uncomfortable, daily life itself was impossible, and I was very uncomfortable. Eating, which I normally did without a thought, was difficult, and taking medication was harder than expected, so I realized I really had undergone major surgery. The hardest part at first was not being able to eat properly. I even regretted not reducing my stomach beforehand… I had surgery using the IVRO method, so I had to consume liquids for two weeks afterward, then soft foods. Not being able to eat whatever I wanted was more stressful than expected. What was harder than that, though, was not being able to talk freely for two weeks 🥹. At first the swelling was so severe that I was startled every time I looked in the mirror. My face seemed different every day, and I often wondered when it would go down. But as time passed and the swelling gradually subsided, my facial shape began to show, and from then on I started to feel that I had really had surgery. The biggest change I feel after surgery is that my stress about my face shape has greatly decreased. I used to often try to hide my face shape when taking photos, but now I do not seem to worry about it as much as before. Of course, I am still recovering, so the final result is not here yet and swelling remains. It seems too early to judge completely based on how I look now. Still, seeing the issue I had worried about gradually change makes me feel that I made the right decision. I realized through experience that recovery is longer than expected and does not end after resting for a few days. My physical condition changes a little each day; sometimes I feel fine, then suddenly tired or uncomfortable. So I am trying not to be impatient and am simply waiting for a natural recovery as time passes. Overall, I had many worries and fears before surgery, but while recovering so far I still feel that I made the right choice. Double-jaw surgery is such a major operation that I do not think it is something to decide on casually. I thought about it for a very long time, had consultations, and then decided. I have not fully recovered yet, so I am still watching how the swelling subsides and how my face settles, but so far I am satisfied while recovering because the things that used to concern me have decreased a lot!!!
