Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Six months after IVRO and double-jaw surgery due to the limits of orthodontics

Since childhood, I had malocclusion and consulted several orthodontic clinics, but I was told that orthodontics had limitations. I was too young at the time and did not consider surgery at all. However, after entering middle and high school, I became increasingly self-conscious about my long lower jaw and prognathism, and began to feel stressed. I became afraid of people seeing my profile and even afraid to take photos. As an adult, I wanted to eliminate my complex, so I underwent double-jaw surgery and two-part facial contouring surgery for the square jaw and chin at [Clinic A]. Before surgery, I was afraid and emotionally distressed whenever someone saw my profile. After surgery, I am no longer afraid at all; rather, I want people to look at my profile more than my front. I used to dislike taking photos, but now I take as many as I want and enjoy a happy daily life. Most of all, I am so happy that the stress about my appearance is gone.

For the first month, discomfort and hunger from being unable to eat properly were harder than pain. From the second month, I was truly happy that I could eat. I still could not eat very hard or chewy foods, but simply being able to eat was enough. From the third month, much of the swelling had gone down, and I was very happy whenever I saw my profile in the mirror. Now that I am entering the sixth month, I can eat almost anything except extremely hard foods. I am living just as I did before surgery.

For several years before surgery, I agonized over whether to have it. But after finally making the decision and comparing my before-and-after photos, I was so satisfied that I wondered why I had hesitated for years. I even thought I should have done it sooner. I am very satisfied. If anyone is considering surgery, I recommend having it as soon as possible. It truly changes your life. During the first month, people around me could not tell because my face was very swollen, but they said something seemed different, as if my jaw had become shorter. From the second month, friends were amazed as soon as they saw me and said my face looked smaller and my jaw looked shorter. Now I often hear that I made the right decision, and my parents are also happy that I no longer feel stressed about my jaw. Before surgery, they were very worried because it was a risky operation, but now they are more satisfied than anyone.

I am living the same daily life as before surgery, and there is truly nothing uncomfortable about having had it done. If I had to name one inconvenience, it would probably be orthodontic treatment, haha. Still, now that my complex is gone, I am living a very happy life and am no longer afraid when someone sees my profile. In fact, I want people to look at my profile!! I truly think I made the right decision.
