These days, comparing myself to before surgery and seeing the little changes has become kind of fun. It has now been about one month since I received double-jaw surgery from Director Kim Jong-yoon at Leeu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery~ I originally had malocclusion and facial asymmetry, so eating and speaking were uncomfortable, and my long jaw and overall flat face also bothered me a lot. At first, I didn’t want to go as far as surgery either, so I tried to solve it as much as possible with orthodontics. Every time I visited an orthodontic clinic or an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic, I was told that I was a case that needed double-jaw surgery, but I still thought orthodontics might improve things, so I started braces first.. But even with orthodontics, there were limits because the facial bones themselves were asymmetrical, so there was a limit to correcting the bite, and outwardly there weren’t many changes from what I had imagined. Then I started looking up double-jaw surgery reviews one by one on YouTube, and seeing the process of how people who had similar worries to mine changed after surgery made me think I should get a proper consultation too! What made me choose Leeu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was that I had seen a lot of videos where the doctors explained double-jaw surgery in detail on YouTube. I also looked up the actual surgical results together with those explanations, and it felt trustworthy:) In particular, I still remember seeing the process of making the stent by hand so that the surgical plan could be applied properly in the actual operation!! Compared with other hospitals, it was easy to see pre- and post-op facial bone CTs, the surgical results of model patients, and before-and-after photos on Instagram and YouTube, and because I kept seeing them often, it was helpful to get a sense of how much change I might see after surgery! For me, because of the malocclusion, improving the appearance was important too, but if I had only thought about that, I don’t think I would have decided on double-jaw surgery because of the difficult recovery process and the cost afterward. Through the consultation, I decided to have the surgery with Director Kim Jong-yoon, taking both aesthetics and function into account! At week 3, the sensation in my teeth had not fully returned yet, but I could feel the gums, and aside from stiffness around the cheek muscles or my left ear feeling blocked from time to time, there were no major inconveniences in daily life~ Now it has been over a month! As you can see in the photos, there is still some swelling, but my mouth can open to about three fingers and things are improving a lot! My cheek muscles are still stiff, and when I wear the wafer my temples sometimes hurt, but I can feel my bite gradually improving, so I feel good. I still can’t eat freely, so these days what I’m looking forward to most is the day I can eat comfortably!! Since it has only been about a month, I’m also looking forward to how my bite and sensation will change from here, and in many ways I’m even more excited about the surgery results!
