6-Month Review After Cheekbone and Square Jaw Surgery

Before<1 week after>After<1 month after>After<6 months after>It’s been 6 months, and I came to leave a review I can yawn normally now, and I can chew ssam properly too

Taco-sseom was so kind and sweet, and the staff were all kind too

Day of surgery - I fasted for 9 hours, arrived by 9 a.m., and the surgery started at 10 a.m. It was done with sleep anesthesia + general anesthesia, and the surgery took about 4 hours. Before surgery I had read a lot of reviews and kept thinking about how much it would hurt and in what way, so I wasn’t scared of the surgery. I wasn’t even nervous.. I had already decided to go through with it knowing there could be side effects, and since it’s pain I can’t avoid anyway(?), I just thought, let it hurt! So it was less scary. - When I was moved from the operating room to the recovery room, I was out of it, and from then on it was painful for more than 6 hours. (The kind of pain where you feel drunk but can’t sober up.) First of all, I couldn’t drink water, so my mouth was a dry desert. Fortunately, I didn’t have much bleeding, so 1. I didn’t have a blood drain tube. 2. During COVID, I had the worst sore throat of my life, so 3. The throat irritation from the breathing tube and anesthetic gas was nothing. 4. Since I had no saliva to swallow, I naturally felt the throat irritation less. The hardest part was waking up from anesthesia. They said breathing was important, so I kept inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth very often, but the nurse said to do it slowly because doing it too fast could cause hyperventilation, and to do it once every 30 minutes. My head was dizzy, my stomach was churning and nauseous, and my face hurt as if someone had hit it.. More than the pain, it was hard to be in that drunk-but-not-sober state..! If it had been a hangover, I could have thrown up, rolled around in bed, and drunk water and drinks, but lying fixed in bed, unable to drink water after drinking a lot the day before, was the hardest part.. I was thinking not “wake up from anesthesia, wake up from anesthesia” but more like “sober up, sober up”

- They kept giving me IV fluids. In between, they gave pain relief injections, an expectorant? a stomach-protective medicine, and an anti-inflammatory injection. There was a nurse on duty! Six hours after the surgery they gave me water, and after that I had to walk myself with the IV still attached and go get water. I was so glad I brought a squeeze bottle. I could barely open my mouth, so I drank water by squeezing it out of the bottle!

- The swelling is getting worse and worse. I already have bruising under my eyes too. The nurse said I was in great condition and that the swelling was on the mild side, but to me I feel like a pufferfish right now

- Right after surgery I was so, so cold! Luckily they kept the heater blasting, and at some point I returned to a normal body temperature. I think I’m recovering a little fast!

Day 1 - I was discharged and came home. I have bruising under my eyes and around my jaw, and I’m really swollen. I’m also coughing up bloody phlegm. When I was sleeping at the hospital my throat was extremely scratchy, but now it’s a bit better, and I can drink water from a cup! I can eat about pumpkin porridge with a small spoon~

- When I took medication three times a day, I ate pumpkin porridge or rice gruel, and on the night of day 2 I let chocolate snacks dissolve in my mouth I rinse with Garglin once every 2 hours, and I keep using the jaw support band and ice packs too. I went for 30-minute walks in the morning and evening.. I guess I should do even more ^_^

- I started speaking a little from day 1, got even better on day 2, and today is day 3, and aside from my husky voice, I can speak well!

- Sleeping is much more comfortable than when I was hospitalized, but because of a little coughing and bloody phlegm I still keep waking up and falling asleep! I had cold symptoms even before surgery, so I keep having a runny nose, and there’s blood mixed in with it~ The bloody phlegm is something I either swallow or spit out!

Day 2

- I’m the most swollen I’ve ever been! But if I can walk around outside, talk well, and eat anything I can swallow, I want to eat it all~ Today I’m going to try walking even more diligently.. I have a hospital follow-up on day 5~ I’ll check my progress then and come back with another review!

I went to 5 hospitals in person. I compared things like whether they had CCTV, whether an anesthesia specialist was always on site, whether they specialized in facial contouring, whether they focused on a natural look or doll-like lines, and aftercare. I chose the doctor whose fee was reasonable and, above all, the one I felt most drawn to! I really think visiting in person is very important.

I’ve been self-conscious about my face shape since I was 20, so I feel relieved to have done it even now! I’m 30-something now, and my friends were really worried at first, but once I actually did it, they praised me for it~ (I did it without telling my parents) I took 4 days off work including the weekend. Since I’ll probably keep swelling, I’m planning to work from home..

Like other reviews, I really hope everyone carefully thinks about whether this is truly a surgery they need and whether they really have to do it, and makes a decision they won’t regret~ Side effects and all that are things I’m accepting too!
