Before, when I took photos, the thing that bothered me most was that my double eyelid line seemed to disappear. But at some point, even my under-eye area started showing, and I looked even more tired. Even with makeup, my eyes looked heavy, and after hearing a few people say I looked exhausted even when I wasn’t smiling, I became more self-conscious. When I went for the consultation, I was only thinking about the upper part, but the director explained that they needed to look at both eyelid sagging and the under-eye area together to organize the overall impression. She said that looking at them separately could leave things looking ambiguous, but if you correct the upper and lower areas together, it would look much more natural. That explanation really resonated with me. I didn’t want to regret only fixing one area, so I had upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty together. Right after surgery, of course there was swelling, and for a few days it felt a little awkward, but it wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as I had imagined. As time passed, the first thing I noticed was that opening my eyes became easier than before, and once the sunken and puffy look under my eyes improved, I looked less tired overall. Because this wasn’t a surgery that creates a new line, the change wasn’t some dramatic transformation. Instead, it felt like the only bothersome parts of my original face had been cleaned up, and I liked that better. When I went in for follow-up, they checked everything very carefully, which was reassuring. Now, every time I look in the mirror, I end up looking at the eye area first, and I’m satisfied because it looks much cleaner than before.
