Before/after It’s almost been a year since my revision surgery for a bulbous nose. For my first surgery, they used donated costal cartilage, but it all got absorbed and drooped, and there was no improvement from the front at all, so I had revision surgery using ear cartilage.
Even if it’s not necessarily autologous costal cartilage, sufficient frontal improvement can be achieved with ear cartilage alone..! It’s a major surgery requiring general anesthesia and leaving a scar on the rib area, and it feels like at some point the idea that “for a bulbous nose, you absolutely have to use autologous costal cartilage!” became a fixed frame, so it’s a shame that many people choose autologous costal cartilage from their first surgery.. If you have keloid-prone skin like me, please keep in mind that bulbous nose correction can be sufficiently done with ear cartilage too~
