1-Month Review of Chin Advancement Surgery at Yang Yoon-dol Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

I’ll share my 1-month review after chin advancement surgery at Yang Yoon-dol Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

1. What made me decide on surgery I had known since middle school that I had a recessed chin, but as I got older, my chin gradually lost more definition. As I gained weight without dieting, I really disliked how my cheeks looked saggy and my chin looked set back, so I decided to have surgery.

2. Recovery process After reading other reviews saying that daily life was possible within 2-3 days, I felt relieved, but in reality, living normally within 3 days is very difficult. It may be possible, but it requires tremendous willpower and patience. I focused on recovering at home for 10 days, including the Lunar New Year holiday.

Week 1: I could not open my mouth, and I ate very finely blended porridge by putting it into a bowl, dividing it into small portions, and eating it over 3 servings. Rather than chewing, it felt like I was gently moving it around in my mouth and swallowing right away. I had almost no sensation in my chin.

Week 2: It felt like not even half of the sensation at the tip of my chin had recovered. The feeling that my lower lip was swollen like it had been stung by a bee and the feeling of tightness/clumping in my lower jaw continued. After stitch removal, I was able to eat most foods except hard foods like almonds or cubed radish kimchi.

Week 3: Most of the swelling had gone down, and I went around without a mask. Chin sensation was still dull, and my lower lip still felt swollen as if it had been stung by a bee.

Week 4: Compared with week 3, sensation in my chin had definitely returned, and although my lip was still dull, the swollen feeling had almost disappeared. When I smile and when I make “o” and “ee” mouth shapes, I still feel pulling on both sides of my jaw.

3. Thoughts The first week after surgery was very hard, but as always, time passed. I still have slight residual swelling and decreased sensation, but I think my chin turned out really pretty, and if I put in my own effort with dieting and management, I think I’ll be even more satisfied.
