About 15 years ago, I had surgery that only involved stacking ear cartilage on the nasal tip, and I had no side effects and lived comfortably with it as if it were my own nose. Starting a few years ago, I felt a bit disappointed that my nasal bones and nostril/alar area were slightly wide, so I wondered whether I should get revision rhinoplasty. But I couldn’t readily decide because I was worried that if the nose I wanted didn’t come out, the result might be worse than not having revision surgery at all, so I started going to consultations last year. No matter how many consultations I went to, I never felt certain like, “Ah, this is the hospital I should do it at.” So I didn’t have surgery, but after consulting at RU Plastic Surgery, I felt convinced that I could go ahead with surgery! So I decided on revision surgery. Because standards like “the nose is high,” “the nose is glamorous,” and “it looks natural” differ so much from person to person, I thought I could only entrust my nose to someone meticulous and skilled who could accurately catch what I wanted and create a nose shape I would be satisfied with lol And that person was Director Kim Hyun-joo! Originally, since I already had some nasal bridge height, I only wanted osteotomy and alar reduction surgery, but I thought it would look prettier and the result would be more satisfying if the step-off between the nasal tip and my original nasal bridge was connected naturally. So I had revision surgery using autologous costal cartilage for the bridge (3D custom DCF) and autologous costal cartilage for the nasal tip so that the tip and bridge could be connected. I tend to have a strong aversion to foreign materials, so I was glad that my nasal bridge could be done with autologous costal cartilage. Strangely, when I previously went to consultations, I felt very resistant when they gave me a plan to operate on the bridge too, but I trusted Director Kim Hyun-joo’s plan, so I did the bridge as well, and I think I made the right choice! For about the first 3 days after surgery, I thought I was going to die (for me, the dry mouth and sore throat were hard), but after that it wasn’t too difficult haha. They say it varies from person to person, but I don’t think the area where the rib cartilage was harvested hurts that much either. The director said she would make the rib harvest scar not very noticeable, so I’m not worrying too much and plan to follow the treatment plan the clinic gives me! I normally bruise easily, so I did have quite a bit of bruising, but as of today, around 2 weeks, almost all of the bruising is gone, and compared with how terribly swollen I was at first, the swelling has gone down a lot. It’s still only 2 weeks, so of course there is swelling, but I think it turned out nicely! The photo is from around 10 days after the revision surgery!! Every time I go for follow-up, they give me swelling laser treatment and injections. Rather than a nose that is too high, I wanted a nose that naturally suits my face while improving the areas I was dissatisfied with, and I think she really understood exactly what I wanted!! haha
