I originally had a severe step on my nasal bridge because of my hump nose, and I really hated how it made my image look masculine. I hated being photographed from the side every time, and when I took selfies with friends, it stressed me out so much that all I could see was my nose. I would press down on my nasal bridge with my fingers every day by myself, just wondering what it would be like if the hump disappeared. Then at the end of last year, my parents said they would support me financially, so I got up the courage to look into surgery.
At first, I simply searched for rhinoplasty, but there were so many hospitals that I couldn’t really tell what would suit me. I started setting my own criteria little by little while searching through places like cafes, plastic surgery apps, and YouTube, and based on the information I learned, I gradually settled on my own conclusion that I needed bulbous nose + hump nose correction lol
Before going to VN Plastic Surgery, I had consultations at two places in Gangnam, and there I was told that my septal cartilage was small, and that my nasal tip needed to be raised more than my bridge, but it would be impossible without costal cartilage. Since other hospitals kept saying that, I thought this place would definitely say I didn’t have enough septal cartilage too. But here, the director measured the size of my septal cartilage accurately and recommended using a mix of septal cartilage and costal cartilage, saying that although it was small, it wasn’t completely unusable.
Using autologous costal cartilage felt burdensome because of the scar, so I decided to use donated costal cartilage. Among all the places I went to for consultations, this one seemed to make the results the most natural and not excessive, so I had it done by Chief Director Oh Seung-il.
Maybe because I had hump nose and bulbous nose correction together, right after surgery both my nasal bridge and tip were really swollen. I had yellow bruising on my nasal bridge at first, and it disappeared after about 2 weeks. The swelling in the nasal tip went down the slowest, probably because I had alar reduction, costal cartilage, and cartilage tying all done. In the first week, when you look at your face, your nose is all you can see, almost like a swollen-nose character lol
Subjectively, the nasal tip swelling went down the slowest, and since the director had told me this during the consultation too, I thought I had no choice but to wait. When I was 3 weeks post-op, I took a half-day off and went to the hospital for swelling laser treatment, but even though I went in the morning, there was still a wait. It looked like a lot of people were coming in for treatment. I think it would be tight to just squeeze it in during a short break
Still, I’m satisfied because my nose shape has naturally settled and looks refined, and it made me feel good when people around me said they couldn’t tell I had surgery and that it turned out well lol
It hasn’t been that long yet, so I’ll have to keep watching it, but I hope it continues to settle in without any problems just like this.
