I visited Elite because it’s a well-known plastic surgery clinic in Incheon. First, my first impression of the clinic was, this is a factory! That kind of feeling. Lots of people, lots of waiting, lots of consultation managers. I’ve been to many factory-style clinics in Seoul too, but it wasn’t quite as chaotic as a crowded market to that extent. The consultation manager was decently kind, though it did feel like the smile was somewhat forced, but that’s pretty similar wherever you go, so I just thought that’s how it is. And I had a consultation with Director O D G, and at the beginning he explained double eyelid surgery incision vs non-incision, double eyelid lines, and so on in a lot of detail. I think it would be okay for someone who knows absolutely nothing about double eyelid surgery to go and listen.
Anyway, after the lecture ended, he held up lines for me, but rather than clearly recommending a specific surgical method and line, it was more like he presented me with three options and told me to choose. I thought, if that’s how it is, why am I getting a consultation..
First, I have a double eyelid on only one side. Option 1 was basically to match it exactly to that side. Option 2 was to do incision plus canthoplasty and ptosis correction. Option 3 went as far as a forehead lift, and I was just confused about what I was supposed to choose. Everywhere else clearly pointed it out, saying you can just do double eyelid surgery, or you can do double eyelid surgery + ptosis correction, and this kind of line would suit you. But here it was vague, so I thought it would be good for people who already have very clear standards of their own.
Also, I asked whether it would be good for me to get lateral canthoplasty, and both the consultation manager and the director said, as if they were bewildered, that it was something I had to choose, so I became bewildered too. Then they asked me, as if it was absurd, why I was trying to get double eyelid surgery, and I just found it funny, so I said, “Um, to make my eyes bigger~” and internally thought this place won’t work for me. I went elsewhere and asked whether I should get lateral canthoplasty, and every single place gave detailed and careful answers like there’s no space to widen, or they’d hold it for me once so I could see and if I liked it they’d do it. So in the end I came to understand that my eyes don’t need canthoplasty. Actually, they also recommended epicanthoplasty, but since my lacrimal caruncles are already fully exposed, it felt like an unnecessary diagnosis. Anyway, when I asked the director something, he did try to answer in detail, so I liked that point, but I thought it would be better if the consultation were a bit clearer.
