If you're going to do local anesthesia, you need to brace yourself (mildly graphic warning)

I finally had surgery today. My eyelids are thin, so it was revision surgery with natural adhesion, and originally it was going to be sedation anesthesia + local anesthesia, you know? In the past, while waking up from sedation anesthesia, I had a dark history where an alien inside me appeared and, as if speaking in tongues wasn't enough, I sobbed loudly in the operating room. I usually think I tolerate injections pretty well, so I asked them to proceed with only local anesthesia. But,,,,, the local anesthetic injections hurt soooooooo much!!! Only after going into surgery did I understand why they give the local anesthetic injections while you're under sedation, but my eyes were already being stitched up... This didn't end with just one injection. While fully conscious, each eye got 3-4 shots along the line, at least 6 to 8 shots total, and when they flipped the eyelid and injected it, whew... I should have gotten sedation and let the alien out... Because the injections hurt, I kept tensing up, so I got a lot of bruising too. If there's an advantage(?), maybe it's that I could respond accurately when the director told me to open my eyes? It's a relief I chose it myself; if someone had recommended it, I might have grabbed them by the collar. Anyway, I don't recommend staying asleep continuously under sedation, but if it's temporary sedation because you're worried the local anesthetic injections will hurt, I think it might be better to just do it. I think the surgery went well, and I hope the swelling goes down and the line comes out pretty.
