I wonder if anyone remembers me. In May 2023, I had 2-type facial contouring surgery + a slight cheekbone procedure (they said if I didn't do it, the sides wouldn't match, so about 1 mm) at a very large, supposedly top-tier plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam, and so many things happened after that. My last post was written before my reconstructive surgery. Since then, I had one reconstructive surgery in July, and I went through a dangerous situation during the surgery. Even though I received 3 packs of blood transfusions before surgery, they said a dangerous moment came during the operation and I had to receive another transfusion, and because I didn't wake up from anesthesia, the surgery went on longer than expected. The reconstructive surgery itself went very well. I live outside Seoul, but there is a hospital where I live that specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Luckily, I was able to have reconstructive surgery just 2 months after the first surgery (normally it takes several months, but my condition was extremely serious, and I was lucky), and the doctor was apparently very famous for oral and maxillofacial reconstruction. He was a hidden master. The surgery itself went very well, but in the end I had to have 1 of my 6 front teeth extracted. It was so, so painful emotionally because, maybe because I'm a woman, I tend to care a bit more about my appearance... and the front teeth are the part people see right away.. But when that area became empty, I looked so foolish.. On top of that, they said we had to monitor the remaining 5 teeth too, because it seemed like the nerves had died. And for the area where the bone had dissolved, they injected something like bone regeneration material (I don't remember the exact name) so that it would hopefully generate bone. In the meantime, because all the bones were fractured, they fixed everything with metal plates so they wouldn't move. The doctor said we should watch it for 6 months first. He said the bone might not grow... If that happened, we would have to look for another method... He also mentioned implants... Those 6 months were truly like torture. Headaches of unknown cause that came at all times, pain that felt like my eyeballs were going to pop out, tingling and electric sensations under my mouth... all my teeth were sensitive... under my jaw felt soft and squishy... And especially, my mouth became completely twisted... haha.... The upper lip and lower lip, how should I put it, you know the line in the middle when you look at the lips? Those center lines used to match each other, but after surgery they became completely twisted. It wasn't because of the reconstructive surgery.. It was just that the twisting that had started because of the previous surgery couldn't return. They said there was no problem with the bone, no problem with the muscles, no problem with the nerves, and no problem with the dental bite, so there was simply nothing that could be done... hahahaha I was furious to the top of my head, so I even went to a well-known oral and maxillofacial clinic in Seoul and asked, but they said the same thing hahaha So I just trudged away and gave up haha And the biggest suffering was fear. How would this be treated? What would happen? Could it be treated? Would it ever get better? Would my face become even stranger? That fear came constantly and tormented me even in my dreams. I just wanted to die. I finally understood why people who go through experiences like this make bad choices. Still, each time, thanks to the good people around me somehow, I endured it well and got through it. Around March, they said we should remove the metal plates, so I had them removed, and since then I have continued orthodontic treatment. Actually, I finished orthodontic treatment more than 10 years ago, but because all my teeth shifted and one became missing, I had to do it again. The pain of orthodontics all over again... haha The costs keep coming out of my own pocket. The first surgery cost 5 million or 5.5 million won, and the reconstructive surgery alone, including surgery and hospitalization fees, cost a little over 6 million won, and orthodontics cost 5.5 million won.. At the beginning, various things kept costing 200,000 or 300,000 won at a time... When everything is included, I think it easily exceeds about 30 million won. Including travel expenses and various medication costs. Time can't be converted into money, so that isn't included... In July 2024, I finally started the review process with the mutual aid association commissioned by the plastic surgery clinic where I had my first surgery. Until then, I had to gather all the materials, scan each and every one, and submit them, so it was quite painful. Still, I'm relieved that the review has started... I don't know when the review will end, but since I've waited this long, I guess I can wait again. All the painful treatment is over now.. I will live with my mouth somewhat permanently twisted, but still, because the reconstructive surgery was done so well, I am truly, truly grateful to the doctor who performed it. To everyone thinking about facial contouring surgery... I'm asking you once again, please think about it one more time.. I really thought about it and researched it for over 20 years before doing it, but this still happened. I never thought I would become the person involved in a medical accident. I never thought I would become one in ten thousand (a rare case among medical accidents). And... I never thought I would... live the rest of my life... with my mouth twisted... Please cherish and love the face you have now... Once the review ends and I receive compensation, I'll come back with another update. By then, maybe I can come back with a lighter heart. Even now and later, I can't tell you the hospital's name exactly, but if there are people who need help, I'll help as much as I can. You are precious today too. Let's stay strong..
