First of all, my throat hurt so much (probably because of intubation into the airway), I could not swallow saliva, and with the compression band and bandages wrapped tightly around my face, it was hard to breathe. When I coughed, possibly from choking, the nurse in charge of the ward heard the sound and quickly came over to check on me and ask if I was okay. They took very careful care of me until the next morning, so I felt very reassured. As the anesthesia wore off and the night grew deeper, I was tired but could not sleep. In an awkward state where I could neither lie down properly nor stay fully upright, I repeatedly fell asleep and woke up. They said drinking water often would help the sore throat, but swallowing anything felt burdensome. Since I could not sleep, I wandered to the bathroom, got lost in many thoughts while looking at the night view outside the hospital room, and wondered whether the surgery had gone well and when I would fully recover and no longer have discomfort in daily life. Before I knew it, morning came. During the director’s rounds, he carefully checked whether there were any problems and whether I was okay, and told me I had worked hard. Then I received the care items provided by the hospital and swelling care, and they also taught me how to wear the compression band, so I tried it myself. I was discharged after listening to the post-surgery precautions and receiving the paper with the instructions written on it. I used a private room, and it was very pleasant. I even thought I wanted to stay one more day. I think the real start of surgical recovery began after returning home. You do not feel the pain of cutting bone at all during surgery because of anesthesia, but during recovery you face discomfort, pain, and many things to take care of and be careful about. Every two hours, I had to gargle with sterile distilled water mixed with medication, and even after meals, I had to clean the inside of my mouth only by gargling. I also had to avoid irritating foods and could not open my mouth wide. Until the second week after surgery, I think you need to focus on intensive care and pay a lot of attention so that the surgical site heals quickly and recovery is faster. Until the stitches were removed, there were also restrictions on eating, so I waited eagerly for the day they would be taken out.
