AS and refund discussion process After surgery, the result did not meet my expectations, so I inquired about a refund, but I was told that a refund would be difficult due to differences of opinion with the hospital. Before surgery, I was told that “AS is possible for 1 year in case of dissatisfaction,” and based on the fact that the director also said, in effect, that there was not much change before and after surgery, I requested AS. However, I was informed that the AS cost would be 1 million KRW.
While I was considering AS, my trust was shaken by several situations that occurred during the surgical process and by my later consultation experiences, and at present I have put AS on hold. I am considering revision surgery at another hospital.
The reason my trust decreased and I came to feel afraid was that, during the AS discussion process, parts of the director’s explanations sounded different to me depending on the situation, and during consultations there were ways of speaking that felt somewhat strong in tone to me. For example, when I asked a question, I heard, “I don’t think I need to answer every one of the patient’s questions.” During the consultation using edited photos before the AS surgery, I felt strong emotion from the director’s tone and attitude, and because of this there was a moment that was emotionally difficult for me. That day I broke down emotionally and cried, and afterward, after seeing me like that, the director said that because our needs were not clear, it would be difficult to proceed with surgery that day. As these experiences accumulated, my trust in the result as a patient gradually weakened.
Afterward, in order to write a review, I requested before-and-after surgery photos from the facial contouring clinic, but I was not able to receive the before-and-after surgery photos from the clinic, and the CT issuance fee was also 50,000 KRW, which was on the higher side compared with other hospitals. In the end, I had another CT scan taken at another hospital, and all the CT materials used in this review were also received from another hospital.
I can clearly say that the orthognathic surgery pin removal itself was done very cleanly. The reason I chose this hospital was also that I received clear guidance that “all pins can be removed,” and there were many positive reviews in this community as well.
Since there were no particular side effects or anything like that after surgery, I do think the director seems to be skilled.
However, the fact that after surgery the director helped write the orthognathic surgery pin removal review on my phone, and the fact that some reviews in the community appeared to be standalone reviews by authors with little other activity, remained personal questions for me. (This part is only my personal feeling.)
On December 8, I visited the hospital again to receive the before-and-after surgery photos and medical records and had another consultation, but in the end, the director explained to the effect that proceeding with AS would be difficult. I understood this differently from the guidance I had heard from the consultation manager before surgery, that “AS is possible within 1 year.”
Also, I was told that, in order to prepare for AS surgery, they needed to confirm whether general anesthesia was possible, so I was guided to undergo an internal medicine examination. I actually paid the cost and underwent the examination, but after the examination I was told that AS would be difficult because the situation had changed between when they guided me about the examination on December 3 and now.
As a result, I only ended up spending money on the internal medicine examination, and I felt bewildered.
In the end, what remains for me is “4.84 million KRW in surgery costs,” “disappointment with the change,” “a wasted recovery period,” and the revision surgery costs and recovery period I will have to spend going forward. If I could turn back time, honestly, I only feel that I want to go back to 10 months ago.
