Jaw and cheekbones, day 6 since surgery

I had jaw and cheekbone surgery on the 23rd... I went into surgery around 11, but I think it only finished near 4... Apparently I lost a lot of blood on one side... ㅜ.ㅜ I was so scared from the moment I went into the operating room,,,ㅎㅎ As soon as I went in, the nurse told me to rinse and disinfect my mouth thoroughly with Garglin,,, The red Garglin... the smell was really awful... and a whole paper cup full of it too... Then I lay down on the operating table and I was honestly terrified... My hands and feet were trembling so badly.... The anesthesiologist came over and said, “Then we should start now~!” so I asked, “Are you going to give me anesthesia?” They said yes... I told them I was so scared, and they said not to be afraid and just count to 10; then it’ll be over~! I heard that, counted to four, and then I don’t remember anything..ㅎㅎ After the anesthesia wore off, I really suffered... Maybe because I had surgery while my tonsils were swollen, my face looked completely swollen too... They had put a compression bandage and a pulling band on my face, and that thing was so suffocating... I was still groggy from the anesthesia, freezing cold, and struggling to breathe; I honestly thought I was going to die... When I kept saying I was cold, the nurse turned the electric blanket up to the highest setting and brought me two blankets to cover me... But I had soaked those blankets in blood and dirtied them all up,,ㅎㅎ The night before, I had deliberately skipped sleep so I could sleep after the surgery, but once it was over I couldn’t sleep at all... It felt like my airway was getting blocked when I lay down,,, anyway, it was so suffocating that I couldn’t stay lying down... As the anesthesia slowly wore off, the cold feeling went away, but then my face started swelling and I felt like I was going crazy... I begged them to take off the bandage because it hurt so much and I couldn’t breathe, but the nurses kept saying not yet.. I truly regretted everything and kept wondering why I had even had this surgery.... I thought countless times that maybe I was going to die like this... The nurses kept telling me to ring the bell if I needed anything or if I was in pain before leaving, and I really think I pressed it countless times,,, I asked for painkillers, said I couldn’t breathe, asked them to raise the bed more, and so on... Later the doctor came and asked if I was in a lot of pain. I said I was in a lot of pain and could barely breathe,, I asked if this amount of swelling was normal, and because my mouth was so swollen my speech was slurred, but I asked everything I wanted to ask,,, When I told the doctor I couldn’t breathe, he took off the compression bandage for me.. At least then I felt like I could live again.. But as time passed, my face kept swelling more and I started coughing up bloody phlegm.. I never really knew how to spit out phlegm properly, but now I think I know for sure,,ㅜ,ㅜ I spent the whole night suffering and spitting out bloody phlegm... There was one other person in the ward besides me, and that friend must have been really annoyed all night..ㅎ Still, when they asked if I was in a lot of pain and I said sorry for being noisy, they said it was okay, which I appreciated^^ Even if I didn’t want to spit it out, it was stuck in the middle of my throat and made breathing so difficult that I had to spit it out by force.. They kept saying I had to get it out too... I thought my throat was going to tear,,,ㅜ.ㅜ I couldn’t sleep a wink that first night, and I just waited for the next day’s appointment... The second day, I was even more swollen than on surgery day and the bloody phlegm was coming out a lot, so again I couldn’t sleep.. From other people’s aftercare posts, it looked like they all slept more or less okay, but I was in such bad shape that I couldn’t sleep at all.... It was more comfortable sitting up, and even when I tried to sleep sitting, my face kept swelling as if it would burst.... I moved to lodging on the second day... I thought it couldn’t get any more swollen because I was already so swollen, but on the third day it swelled even more.. I was in so much pain that I loosened the compression band for a moment and looked in the mirror, and I looked like a fan lady.. My cheekbones seemed even wider, and my jaw seemed even more square.. And it felt like my whole face was being pulled forward and sticking out... That day they also removed the drainage tube, and it didn’t seem to hurt that much, but I’m a bit of a drama queen, so while they were taking it out I kept screaming...ㅎㅎ My lips were swollen so I couldn’t open my mouth well, but they forced it open and took the drainage tube out from there, so of course I was scared..ㅎ The doctor looked at me and asked whether I had swollen more than other people, when my last period was, and whether I usually swell this easily.. I said my period had ended about two days before surgery and that I wasn’t usually the type to swell this much... The swollen photos people post in the photo section are nothing compared to this... After they removed the drainage tube and I came back to the lodging, my face started swelling more and I kept getting more blood from my mouth.. On the 4th day, my eyes suddenly started swelling, my double eyelids disappeared, and I got dark bruises... The right side was completely bruised black like a panda bear, and the left side was less bruised, but it was so swollen I couldn’t open my eye.. My lips were several times bigger than my normal lips and looked like they were about to burst, and there were dark bruises on both sides of my mouth too When I went back to the hospital like that, the nurse was shocked that I was really so swollen, and the doctor was surprised too.. It really hurt so much I thought I was going to die,,, The doctor asked, “It hurts a lot, doesn’t it?” and I wanted so badly to say how much it hurt, but my upper and lower lips were so swollen that talking was difficult.. I was drooling too,,, I still hadn’t slept a single wink until then,,,ㅜ.ㅜ I couldn’t even lie down and had only been sitting the whole time... It hurts so much... ㅜ.ㅜ Is it supposed to be like this? It hurts so much,,,ㅠ.ㅠ I said that, but because I was speaking so slurrily, I’m not sure they understood me; anyway, I think I did manage to convey that I was in a lot of pain,,, The doctor loosened the compression band and pressed all over my face, saying it didn’t look like blood had pooled anywhere~ He said maybe this was just my body’s tendency to swell badly and, just in case, gave me an IV to prevent inflammation... And he said the swelling would definitely go down, so not to worry... After that, I thought it would at least be a little better... But that day was the worst. I really wanted to cry because it hurt so much,,, Everything that could swell on my face swelled; I already have a high nose bridge, but my cheeks swelled too, so my nose bridge looked like I didn’t even have one, and the width of my nose seemed to have gotten so much wider.. Both eyes were bruised and swollen, so the double eyelids were completely gone, and you know the smile lines? I even got bruises there.. My upper and lower lips were both bruised, and the area around my lips was bruised on the top, bottom, and both sides too.... As my jaw started hurting too, I truly, truly regretted having the surgery... Did I really have to go through this much pain to have this surgery.... There was a younger patient next to me who had nose surgery, and when she saw me, she said she had been planning to get surgery too, but she wouldn’t do it because I looked so miserable.. My family at home didn’t even know I had surgery, and I cried calling for my mom..ㅜ.ㅜ My boyfriend knew about the surgery, and he said he was heartbroken because I was in so much pain. He kept saying that if he were with me he would do anything he could, and he was going crazy... That really helped me a lot.. At first he was strongly against it, but when I kept saying I regretted it, he comforted me and said since I’d already done it, I shouldn’t regret it and everything would get better.. By the 4th day I still hadn’t slept a wink, and I was going crazy.. My face hurt, I was sleepy, but if I slept I felt like I’d suffocate and my face would swell even more... Still, I sat on the sofa and slept for about an hour.. If I could fall asleep for a long time, that would be nice, but because I was in pain I kept waking up quickly.. Then on the 5th day, things were a bit more comfortable.. Maybe the swelling had gone down a little, because the double eyelid on my left eye came back slightly, and my mouth moved a tiny bit too... Even when I lay down with the pulling band on, I didn’t feel very suffocated anymore,, and just that alone made me so grateful... So I drank a lot of soy milk and pumpkin juice and slept almost the whole day... I slept in bed, then fell asleep while watching TV, then slept again on the sofa, then slept again while doing a hot compress,,,ㅎㅎ It feels like I slept everything I couldn’t sleep during that time all at once yesterday.. Today is the morning of day 6, and I woke up at dawn and couldn’t fall back asleep^^ It’s much more comfortable now, and I still haven’t been able to eat even one bowl of juk... My face hurt so much that I didn’t even have the mental energy to feel hungry... Just looking at myself, even though it’s only been a few days, I can tell I’ve lost weight,,, and when I look at my face and body together, I look like a fan lady... The swelling hasn’t gone down that much, but that bursting feeling has eased a little^^ I really had a lot of pain and suffered... From other people’s aftercare posts, it looks like they all got through days 3 and 4 without much trouble, but for me it was truly agonizing...ㅠ.ㅠ If someone next to me said they were going to have this surgery, I’d seriously want to stop them... Not just because of the swelling, but because of the pressure from the pulling band,,,ㅠ.ㅠ It feels like the pulling band makes the swelling worse, but the nurses said you have to wear it for the swelling to be a little less.. I still don’t think there’s any way to know yet whether the surgery was done well or not^^ I think my swelling will go down much more slowly than other people’s too..^^ Still, I’m grateful that I’m not in pain anymore.. My mouth still barely opens at all, and I can’t feel either my upper or lower lips when I touch them.. And apparently before surgery you have to say in advance that you want to see the bone later.. At the hospital where I had surgery, they said you have to tell them beforehand if you want to see it later.. Otherwise they said it gets mixed in with other patients’ stuff and they can’t tell whose is whose... Anyway, on the day they removed the drainage tube, I saw the jaw bones that had been cut off in the operating room.. Mine must have been among them... I wish they would show that kind of thing even if you don’t ask... right? That’s all of the aftercare I’ve felt up to today.. I don’t think I was much help, just talking about my pain^^ From the time I had surgery until now, I honestly don’t know how time passed... My head was all over the place^^ I hope everyone who had surgery, including me and everyone else, gets amazing results~!
